News Death Notice

VARNER, Janet Marie age 58 of Hamilton passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Hospice of Hamilton on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. She was born in Hamilton on November 24, 1952 the daughter of Clyde B. and Hazel (Retherford ) Mays. Janet graduated from Taft High School and worked at Ohio Casualty, West Side Baptist EEC, Hamilton City Schools, and Medco. She was a member of Greenhills United Baptist Church. On June 19, 1971 in Hamilton she married Owen "Bub" Varner, and they were blessed to share 33 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2004. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Beth (Kevin) Sousa and Tara (Jeffrey) Collins; nine cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Zach, and Jonathon Butler, Jacob, Joshua, and Jordan Sousa, and Carissa, Spencer, and Taylor Collins; three brothers, Willie (Wanda) Mays, Michael (Debbie) Mays, and Mark (Freida) Mays; three sisters, Donna (Butch) Varner, Paula Sams and Pam (Mark) Philpot; a sister-in-law, Paula Mullins; and many nieces and nephews, each of whom she considered her favorite. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her mother-in-law, Grace Gibson; and a brother-in-law, Greg Sams. Funeral service will be held at Greenhills United Baptist Church, 2087 Fenton, on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10AM with Rev. Tim Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Greenhills United Baptist Church Youth Group. Janet would want to thank the family, friends, and medical personnel who lovingly cared for her and those who prayed for her.
