Martin BADER Obituary

BADER, Martin Keith Age 92, of Troy, OH died on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Brookdale of Troy. He was born September 12, 1924 in Troy to the late Harry and Katherine (Zerkel) Bader. He graduated from Troy High School, class of 1942. Keith's college education at the University of Cincinnati was interrupted by WWII. He served in the US 3rd Army, European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious duty and a Purple Heart. He returned to UC and graduated with a B. S. in Mechanical Engineering, class of 1951. He was a lifelong resident of Troy and worked at Hobart Manufacturing Company. His interests and hobbies included reading, vintage railroads and trolleys, history, travel and music. Keith was always active in the community. In 2004, he and Mary were the recipients of the "Service to Mankind" Award from the Troy Sertoma Club. He was involved in the Troy Historical Society, Chuck-Help-A-Family, Noon Optimist Club, American Legion Post 43, Troy-Miami County Library Board, Franklin Lodge #14 F&AM and served as Ward 3 Troy City Councilman for many years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Mary (Gantz) Bader; children: Marjorie (John) Gudmundson of the Dominican Republic, Fred (Toni) Bader of Troy, Brian (Barbara) Bader of Springfield, Beverly (Jim) Buckley of Eugene, OR; six grandchildren; Sarah (Steve) Barber, Abby (Adam) Huwer, James (Catie) Bader, Erin (Joe) Dempsey, Devon and Graydon Bader; five great-grandchildren: Evelyn, David, Jack, Grant and Jamison; and one brother: Robert (Laura) Bader of Xenia. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Masonic Lodge services will be conducted at 4:00PM and Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will provide Military Honors following the lodge service. He will be interred at Riverside Cemetery, Troy at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made in Keith's name to the Troy Historical Society, 100 W. Main St, Troy, OH 45373 or Friends of the Library, c/o Troy/Miami County Library, 419 W. Main St. Troy, Ohio 45373. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
