Family-Placed Obituary

WEBSTER, Virgil "Bill" Southard Age 92, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Hillspring of Springboro Nursing Center, where he resided since January of 2002. Born in Orange, Mass. on May 18, 1915, to Albert Ball Webster and Genieve Lillian (Haskell) Webster, Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Berthalene Moore and Harriette Morrell, and nephew Kenneth Richards. From 1942 to 1946, Bill worked for Piper Aircraft Co. in Lock Haven, Pa. as a pilot and flight instructor and moved to Middletown in 1946, working for Aeronca Aircraft Corporation. He was Superintendent of what is now known as Woodside Cemetery and Arboretum for 17 years. During the 1960's, Bill was a Lay Minister, traveling to churches in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. From 1966-1976, Bill and his former wife, Ellie, owned Webs Flower Shoppe in Monroe. Bill was also a Chaplain at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village and a life-long advocate of Right to Life. Bill is survived by his former wife and friend, Ellie Webster of Trenton, and their three children, Connie (Ed) Purdum of Franklin, Karen (Gary) Day of Middletown, and Lois Webster (Ken) Hollon of Miami Township; his son and daughters, James H. Webster, Fla., Jeanne Webster and family and Joannie (Webster) Demlow and family, Ky.. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa (Jake) Wells, Stephanie (Michael) Howard, Amy Day, Carrie (Joe) Brady, and Julie Day all of Ohio, Lisa A. (Bob) Wright, Tabitha R. (Jerry) Quick, and Casey A. Webster all of Florida, several great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephew Sylvia (Alan) Temple, Norman (Robin) Richards, Joyce Hirtle, Charlene (Robert) Fruchter; and special friends Duke (Jennifer) Flaherty and Bud (Jane) Jewell. Special thanks to the staff at Hillspring of Springboro and Vitas Innovative Care for their kindness, care and support. Visitation: Wed. March 5th, 5-7 p.m. at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, in Middletown. A brief public funeral service will follow. Burial in West Orange, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, PO Box 420445, Midd. OH 45042 or the Alzheimer's Assn., Greater Cinn. Chapter, 644 Linn St., Ste 1026, Cinn., OH 45203.
