Coach Misita, the first thing you taught me was to “Never Get Reached!” This life is always throwing us curveballs, and the lessons I learned from you on the football field have allowed me to persevere and continue to battle life’s obstacles!

I have great memories of teaching at Mater Dolorosa with Tony and you, Sylvia. Tony has been an inspiration to all those young people he had coached and taught throughout his career. He has touched the hearts and minds of generations of students and will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you Sylvia, and may God and His angels comfort and support you in the days ahead.

Dear Sylvia, while it has been eons since I last saw Tony and you I recognized that handsome young man pictured in the obituary right away. We are at that age where reading the obits is a big part of our life - to keep informed about who of our contemporaries has gone to be with God and to make sure that our own name is not among them. You and Tony had many years and many wonderful experiences together and now you will have memories of those times to reflect upon and give you comfort. I ask God to be with you and your family and give you comfort in this time of sadness.

Coach Misita was a great man. I played for him during my sophomore and junior year at SLU. After my freshman year, I became home sick and was going to quit the team and head back to Alabama. However Coach talked me into staying and for that, I’m forever grateful. Most of the friends I have today are the result of that conversation. He taught me to never quit when faced with adversity. I still try to live by those principles today. You will truly be missed Coach. My thoughts and prayers are for your family.

Coach Misita was a great leader. I had the pleasure of playing for him during the 1984 and 85 seasons at SLU. He made you want to give your all, which is a principle I still follow today. I actually thought about leaving after my freshman year, but he talked me into staying. I’m forever grateful for that! Most of the friends I have today are the result of that conversation. You will truly be missed Coach!

Coach Misita recruited me to play football at Louisiana Tech. He was the reason I chose to play there. During that time, he was very much like a parent to me. To his family, I can only say, it must be so very rewarding and comforting to know he touched many young men's lives and inspired them to become better human beings. He made a difference in my life.

Dear Sylvia,
I have been trying to get back in touch with you for a long time. I am sorry it is under these circumstances and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember fun times we had in Oxford so long ago. (Jeff Shiver who was at Ole Miss with us gave me the sad news today.) Paul died on Oct. 31 after a long battle with CTE.
I would love to hear from you sometime - 251 421-3618. With sympathy and love, Heike

What a great and good Christian man who was a friend to all and a mentor to many. Tony spent an extra term at Amite High in 1951 to play football under Coach Richardson. He played center and I played quarterback. It was the only year that I played and Tony took me under his wing. For 9 games that year, he provided me with wisdom, encouragement and protection, I know that their are many others who can attest to and are thankful for his motivational, inspirational and compassionate nature. Sylvia, we grieve with you and all the family members, but we cherish the knowledge that Tony is in Heaven worshiping and praising our Lord and Savior and that we will renew our friendship when we join him in that worship and praise. We thank God for Tony's life and the opportunity we had to share in a part of it

I am so sorry to hear about Coach Misita. He was my first baseball coach 60 years ago. I used to drive his friend Mutt Bellavia to Tulane football practices & meet with him after practice. We went to the Central state championship game in Assumption when he was there. I pray for special blessing & comfort for his family.
