Nelda Faye Stewart Kinchen

Nelda, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2022. She was a longtime resident of Albany, LA. Nelda was a devoted member of Blood River Baptist Church. She dedicated over 25 years at the Hammond State School as an Accountant. Nelda absolutely loved being around her family and was truly happy with all of her grandbabies. She always took care of others and took pride in caring for her family. Nelda enjoyed going to church and made sure to instill that in her children. She could often be found sitting on the porch with her husband, enjoying the day and feeding the birds. Nelda was a wonderful wife, mother, and Maw Maw who will be forever missed.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Edward M. Kinchen Sr.; son, Calvin Shaffer (Nina); step-sons, Edward "Matt" Kinchen Jr. (Brenda), Mark Elzie Kinchen; sisters, Betty Oller (Bobby), Sarah Hoyt (Jerry), Shirley Stewart (Jerry); 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Nelda is preceded in death by her daughters, Rhonda Shaffer McKinney, Barbara Shaffer Wallace; step-daughter, Lisa Marie Kinchen Lacy; infant daughter; parents, Elliot "Bully" and Gracie Stewart; sisters, Lela Thompson, Beulah Thompson; and brothers, Joseph Stewart and Russell Stewart.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Kinchen Family Cemetery.
