William Kent "Bill" Hood, 75, of Amite, Louisiana, passed away on September 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 29, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Bill was a proud graduate of Amite High School, Class of 1968. He went on to attend Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, forming lifetime friendships.
In 1970, Bill began what would become an extraordinary and impactful career in the automotive industry. Through vision, determination, and an unwavering commitment to integrity, he grew Hood Automotive Group from a single dealership in Amite, Louisiana into a respected network of over 11 locations across the region. Known for treating both employees and customers like family, Bill built a legacy rooted in service, trust, and leadership.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was deeply committed to his community. He generously gave his time and leadership to a wide range of civic, business, and philanthropic organizations including, but not limited to, Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus and Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association. He also served on the boards of Hood Memorial Hospital, Entergy Louisiana and was the longest serving Director of First Guaranty Bank, with a remarkable 48 years of service.
Bill also lived life with a deep sense of joy and adventure. He was an avid traveler and loved boating, golfing, snow skiing, and hunting. Whether he was on the water, on the slopes, or traveling the world, he embraced each moment and shared it generously with those he loved.
Above all his many accomplishments, Bill's greatest joy in life was being a loving father and grandfather. Affectionately known as "Daddy Hood", he poured his heart into his family. His wisdom, warmth, and unwavering love were constant gifts to his children and grandchildren, who adored him beyond measure.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Kirk Morgan Hood; daughters, Amy Hood Conti (husband Brant), Nancy Hood Pray (husband Cade), and Betsy Kent Hood; grandchildren, Savannah Carol Conti, Sophia Morgan Pray, William Blake Conti, and Hudson Hood Pray. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas "Bobo" Hood; sisters, Lindy Hayden, Candy Jenkins, and Cindy Hood; brothers-in-law, Jeff Morgan and Marty Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Hood; mother, Marie Kent Hood; father-in-law, Elmer Grady Morgan; mother-in-law, Gloria McIntyre Morgan; brother-in-law, Chip Morgan; and nephew, Tommy Hood.
In accordance with Bill's wishes, a private service will was held with close family only.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bill's memory to the Elmer Grady Morgan Endowed Scholarship in Athletics, Southeastern Development Foundation, SLU 10293, Hammond, LA 70402.

This saddens me greatly. Bill and I were dealer sons in the 70's and we went to LSU and Northwood Institute together. While I haven't seen him in years, we have always been connected as friends. Rest easy Bill. Condolences to his family, he was a great person. As an aside, when we went to LSU, he drove a Camaro with a horn that played "See the USA, in a Chevrolet". Great car man.

It was with great sadness I learned of the passing of my friend and classmate. Although I saw Bill too infrequently through the years, he was always the same: friendly, engaging, and disarming with his self-depreciating humor. He remained genuine and never let earthly success go to his head.
I always looked forward to seeing Bill and I never went away disappointed. Bill liked people and it was always mutual. It was heartwarming to read the kind words written by people whose lives were positively impacted by Bill. That was Bill even back in high school.
Lindy, Bobo, Candy, Cindy, Kirk, his daughters and all extended family, my sincere condolences. May God grant you His peace and fond memories in your season of grief.
Farewell dear friend.

My Heartfelt Condolences to: Mrs. Kirk, Amy, Nancy, Betsy, Bobo, Mrs. Candy, Mrs. Lindy and Cindy! I feel saddened to hear of your loss! Thinking out loud, I have always had a great admiration for your family! However, I feel I knew Mr. Bill, from a young age going places with my Dad. Mr. Bill would always acknowledge me with his great smile seemingly with real joy to see me. As I grew older I understood better of what I saw in him was genuine kindness: He was always One super congenial and gracious man with pure benevolence!!
Prayers and Love sent to each of you from the heart! ❤

I spent 23 years at the Ford Lincoln dealership. For much of the time I felt Bill and Bubba were almost like my own two brothers. I loved them and many of the people I worked with. Long time employees including myself watched all you kids grow up. I know your pain is enormous and my prayers are with you all. Your daddy loved you all and his grands. I remember when he came in to tell me about your upcoming heart surgery Amy he said "I gotta tell you I am concerned about it." "I told him I would surely be praying for you." After your successful surgery he came back to thank me for my prayers. He came to my brother Daryl's memorial gathering at the Villa's and was so kind and supportive. Kirk you too were there and so kind as you always are. Having lost my daddy just after I turned 21
I relate to the sadness you as Daddy's girls feel and to my mother's profound sadness the way I know you must feel Kirk.
My prayers for all of you...and to Lindy, BoBo, Candy and Cindy from experience there is not much harder than losing a sibling except for losing a child.
Thinking of all of you with love...

This man took me into dealership family at age 15. Always was good to me and also made me learn things to make me more knowledgeable. I started out washing cars then changing oil. Next thing you know I was pulling transmission and taking ASE certification. He aasked his managers who you think can fill role of quality control . I was picked and never looked back. I say that to say this. He had lot on his plate and still took the time out to visit his employees check them and would help you anyway he could. I take my hat off to you thank you for everything may you rest easy my friend
