Lowell McGrew Obituary

Lowell Scott McGrew was born on April 5, 1928 at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota and passed away Oct. 28, 2010.

He attended Burnside and Jefferson Elementary Schools and graduated Red Wing High School in 1946. He then served in the US Army for two years. He was stationed in the continental US and in Italy and was discharged at Fort Ord, Ca., in 1948. After completing his higher education in Minnesota, he moved to California and began his banking career in Monterey on March 20, 1950. His varying assignments took him to many locations in Northern and Central California culminating in his retirement as Branch Manager at Portola District, San Francisco on April l, 1984.

He then joined a tax-consulting firm as a partner and continued in that profession until December, 2007.

He was an avid golfer and played at a high level of proficiency from age 10 for 60 years. His love of the game knew no bounds and he considered it a metaphor for life. Golf travels included Canada, Hawaiian Islands, Ireland, and Italy, as well as many of the 50 states. He last was a member and director of California Golf Club of San Francisco.

His parents, Lewis and Emelia McGrew; a brother, John; a sister, Marilyn Reincke; and a son, Brett Foster, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons Alan Fedder, Jeffrey Foster, David McGrew, Michael McGrew, daughter, Sandra Cisneros, son-in-law, Jose Cisneros, daughters-in-law, Julie McGrew and Kelly McGrew, and grandchildren, Laney McGrew, Alex and Megan Cisneros, and Jack, Alison and Thomas Scott McGrew.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m., at the Grangeville Cemetery, 10428 14th Ave. Armona.

Donations to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or World Wildlife Fund, in lieu of flowers, are preferred.

Carolyn,
I'm not sure if we ever met. I am Michael Reincke, the only child of his sister, Marilyn. Our families were not close or in contact for years. Before Grandma n Grandpa McGrew died, I did get to know them and Scott before they moved to California.
I currently live in the Philippines. I am in Palo Alto for some medical care and Googled Scott's name and saw he passed in 2010. I was hoping to see and talk with him one last time. I waited too long.
If you ever want to contact me or share Scott's life story: [email protected].
You have my condolences. He was a very special man/uncle!

Dear Carolyn,
I found out of Lowell's passing in the S.F. Chronicle. My condolences to you and the family. I was reading the Christmas card notes that you have sent me over the years & you mentioned Lowell was undergoing chemo about this time last year. I will write you soon or can even email you! My email address is [email protected]. I hope we can touch bases soon.
My best to you, Sue Lewis
