LUCILLE LOWE Obituary
LUCILLE LOWE
March 17, 1928 – November 14, 2025
Lucille Lowe was born on March 17, 1928 in Guangdong, China. Raised by her uncle and aunt in China, Lucille met and married Coy Lowe, Sr. in 1946. At 17 years old, she had to claim to be 18 years old to marry, so her American records show her to be a year older than she really is. Coy and Lucille came to America on May 12, 1948 to begin their new life together.
Together, Coy and Lucille worked long hours at the family grocery store - sacrificing weekends and holidays to provide for their five children: Susan Lee (Jeffrey Brian), Robert Lowe, Tom Lowe (Phyllis), Winslow Lowe (Linda), and Coy Lowe Jr. (Nancy). The Lowe children and many of the grandchildren grew up working in the aisles of United Market and learned the value of hard work from Lucille and Coy. They were a credit to their community and were chosen as King and Queen of Kings County and honored in the Homecoming Parade in May of 1997.
Lucille was a remarkable woman - a woman of integrity, love, and great strength. She had a passion for gardening; her Chinese vegetables were often enjoyed by local restaurant patrons as well as friends and family. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to grow their own gardens - always telling them to "Keep trying. You'll get better." With the bounty from her garden and her talent in the kitchen, Lucille fed her family delicious traditional Chinese meals every weekend for many, many years.
Lucille lived in the same family home on 9th Street in Hanford until the age of 89 when she moved in with Tom and Phyllis. At the age of 94, she moved to Clovis and spent her last years living with Coy Jr. and Nancy. Lucille spent her final years encouraging her garden to grow, critiquing her son's gardening and cooking endeavors, and surrounded by her big, loving family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy - her newest great-granddaughter, Evie, born on her 96th birthday, inspired her to carry on as long as she did.
Lucille passed peacefully in her sleep and entered into eternal rest on November 14, 2025. We would like to thank Saint Agnes Hospice for their care and service provided in keeping Lucille comfortable until the end. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Coy Lowe, Sr.; son-in-law Jeffrey Brian Lee; a brother; two sisters, and niece Mei Ling. Lucille leaves behind her legacy of five children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson due to arrive February of 2026. We will all miss her greatly.
Visitation for Lucille will begin on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 3pm with a Rosary at 4pm and a Vigil Service at 6pm at Whitehurst McNamara Funeral Home, 100 W. Bush St., Hanford CA. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 10am at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 1001 N. Douty St, Hanford, CA. Burial will follow at Grangeville Cemetery, 10428 14th Ave, Armona CA.
