CORBIN — Nancy Katherine Bird, age 74, of Corbin, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at The Continue Care Hospital in Corbin.
She was born October 12, 1939 in Twila, KY to the late Hubert Howard and Lillian Smith Howard. Nancy graduated from Harlan Independent High School in 1957 where she was also the 1957 football homecoming queen. She was raised in Highsplint, KY. Nancy was an educator for thirty-nine years, with thirty-eight of those years at Corbin Independent School System. She was dedicated to her school and community and gave free art classes. She was a member of the KEA, and Central Baptist Church of Corbin.
She was preceded in death by; brother; Donnie Ray Howard.
Survived by; husband; Jerry Lee Bird, of Corbin, son; Steven Lee Bird wife Lisa of Tampa, FL, two grandchildren; Steven Ryan and Madison Katherine, two brothers; Jack Howard wife Rita of Knoxville, TN, Bob Howard wife Waynetta of Harlan, KY, one sister; Jeannie Prochaska husband Roger of Ravena, NE, and several nieces and nephews to mourn her passing.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lockhart officiating.
Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Central Baptist Church of Corbin.
