Randel Vanzant Obituary

Randel "Randy" Gene Vanzant passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Sunday, April 25 (2021) at his home in Central City, surrounded by his family. He was 74 years old.
Randy was born Aug. 19, 1946, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Randel and Lorraine (Spinks) Vanzant. He was raised in Norwalk, California. He lived most of his young adult life in northwest Arkansas where he worked as a truck driver for Willis Shaw Express and eventually retired from American Freightways. He met and married Vonelle Vanzant when he moved to Midland, Texas, in 1984. They lived in Midland until moving to Arkansas in 1993. He operated his own business in Midland, Texas, and worked for American Freightways when he returned to Arkansas.
Randy loved his Lord, Jesus Christ. He had a servant's heart and did all he could for family, friends and strangers alike. He was devoted to his family and always put other's needs before his own.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rondell Kimbriel and Debbie Reece; brother, Garland Vanzant; and his granddaughters, Jessica Atkinson and Stormy Sharp.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Vonelle, of the home; daughters, Debbie Atkinson and husband Jeff, of Harrison, Sherrie Davis and husband Mike, of Lavaca, Shelly Horn and husband Eddie, of Bristow, Oklahoma; Jeff Parsley and wife Lea, of Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Connie Garrison, of Midland, Texas, and Lynn Reece and husband Preston, of Alpena; and brother-in-law, Greg Schulze, of Central City; and many more beloved family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 28, at Grace Fellowship in Fort Smith, with the memorial service to follow at noon, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Dr. Kyle Jarnagin will officiate. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday April 29, at Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Harry Olsen officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Parsley, Jeff Atkinson, Mike Davis, Greg Schulze, Charles Hunt and Aaron Smith.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Grace Fellowship Church, 10303 Highway 45, Fort Smith, AR 72916, or Heart of Hospice, 1401 South Waldron Road, Suite 201, Fort Smith, AR 72903, or a charity of your choice.
