LEVIN, Abraham "Al" Al Levin died peacefully at home Sunday, (September 19, 2004) at age 96. Beloved husband and soulmate of Nikki Levin for 55 blissful years. Cherished father and mentor to his daughter, Deborah Lexye Aversa and her husband, Gianni Aversa. Devoted father and best friend to his son, Bruce Levin and his wife, Gail; and precious grandchildren, Danielle and Mac. He also leaves behind his dear brother, Dr. Harry Levin; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Louis Levin; and sister, Rose Steinman Glass. Born 1908 in Russia to Hyman and Mollie Levin, he arrived in the U.S. in 1912 and was raised with brothers, Harry, Lou and sister, Rose near Waterbury. He sojourned to South Florida in the 1920's and established several businesses in Hialeah, surviving the 1926 hurricane. Resided in New Britain for his adult life, where he founded Regal Men's Shops in 1938 and expanded his business in men's and boy's retailing and discount department stores throughout the northeast and midwest. Long time local seasonal resident, moved permanently to Palm Beach, FL in 2001. A veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. Member of B'nai Israel Synagogue in New Britain. Member of Cliffside Country Club and Sherbrooke Country Club. Philanthropist supporting many local charities throughout his life. He will remembered for his devotion to his family, his selfless spirit, his entrepreneurial finesse, his whimsical charm, his business acumen, his infinite integrity and his prowess on the golf course. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road (at Woolbright), Boynton Beach, FL 33437. Following the burial and through Friday, family will receive friends at home, at The Barclay, 3546 South Ocean Boulevard, Palm Beach, FL 33480. Donations may be sent to the New Britain, CT Chapter of Hadassah or to Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, FL.
