DeFRANZO, Albert M. Sr.
Albert Michael DeFranzo, Sr., 88, of Windsor, beloved husband for 60 years of Gina Ann (Della-Nave) DeFranzo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, (November 20, 2011) surrounded by his family at Hartford Hospital. Born in Windsor on May 22, 1923, son of the late Michael Angelo DeFranzo and Christine (LoPrete) DeFranzo, he was raised in Hartford and had lived in Windsor since 1957. Albert attended Weaver High School and shortly after enlisted into the U.S. Army prior to the outbreak of World War II. Albert served in the 29th Division and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. He was wounded and awarded a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1945. After returning to Hartford, he started working at Fuller Brush Co. in Hartford and later took a position at Combustion Engineering as an engineering inspector. He retired in 1985 as an engineering foreman after 25 years of service. Albert was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed watching games with his family and friends. He liked camping with his wife and children up and down the east coast and working on his cars and his RV, especially his Rocket 88 Oldsmobile. After his retirement, Albert and his wife wintered in West Palm Beach, FL but always returned to Windsor in the summer to be close to their family. Most of all, Albert will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family, smoking a fine cigar, and relaxing at home. A proud veteran, Albert was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Poquonock. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Albert Michael DeFranzo, Jr., and his wife Debra of Hopkinton, MA, Robert Virgilo DeFranzo and his wife Michelle of East Granby, and Thomas Paul DeFranzo and his wife Patricia of Windsor, his daughter who is and will always be daddy's little girl, Kathleen Gina DeFranzo-Warrington and her husband Charles of South Windsor; three brothers, Anthony DeFranzo of Windsor, George DeFranzo of Avon, and Michael DeFranzo and his wife Jean of Enfield, a sister, Lucille LaBianca and her husband Frank of Enfield; ten grandchildren whom he cherished, Albert M. DeFranzo, III, Christopher Terlaga, Anelle DeFranzo, Kelly Horan, Emily Horan, Ryan DeFranzo, Kayley DeFranzo, Hannah DeFranzo, Nicholas DeFranzo, and Andrew DeFranzo; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother; and three sisters.
