Alberta B. Andrews

Alberta B. Andrews, age 93, of West Hartford, passed away at home on January 12, 2014. She was born in Greenville, SC to Albert Aiken and James Morris Ballenger. She graduated from Queens University in Charlotte, NC with a liberal arts degree. She leaves behind her husband of 71 years, Ralph J. Andrews, Jr.; a sister, Clara Lucille Brichter of Virginia Beach, VA; three children, Ruth A. Nikas of Old Greenwich, CT, Bruce S. Andrews of Corvallis, OR, and Anne A. Hardie fo Vero Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Alexander Nikas, Catherine Beck, Cynthia Berecz, and Trevor, Clay and Dean Hardie; and six great-grandchildren, Cole and Sophia Nikas, Jack and Oliver Berecz, and Ryan and Chloe Beck. She was very involved in building her home 63 years ago and was instrumental in changing the name of her street from Ideal Road to Briarwood Road. She was a world traveler during her lifetime having visited Great Britain, all the Western European Countries, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia, and China. She was a participant in the Meals on Wheels Program and after her children were grown she was an elementary teacher in the West Hartford School System for twelve years. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of the First Church of Christ Congregational, West Hartford and burial in the Church's Memorial Garden at a later date.
