BECKER, Alexander Peter Alexander Peter Becker, 84, of Colchester, died peacefully Tuesday, (March 29, 2005) at the Middletown Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit. He was predeceased by his best friend and wife of 32 years, Frances E. Becker. They will now at last be reunited for their final journey. He was born on May 24, 1920 son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Becker and lived in Hartford until 1963. He was a graduate of the Hartford Public High School and a member of the Lithuanian Club, then on Lawrence Street. He also served in the CT National Guard. He had his own TV repair business and worked as a Supervisor at the Underwood Typewriter for 23 years. He was actively involved in his children's PTA at the D.F. Burns Elementary School. He and his wife designed and built their new home and moved to Colchester in 1964. Al, as he was called by many, was known as a Jack-of-All Trades, Master-of-Many and a man who would be the first to offer his hand, his help and even his home to anyone in need. He retired from working early and pursued his love of traveling, fishing, boating and hunting for many years with his wife, also known as Frannie. He always looked forward to his daily Crossword Puzzles and enjoyed planting and harvesting his many gardens. Never being an idle man, he returned to work at Bevin Brothers in East Hampton after the death of his wife and worked alongside his friends for many years. At the age of 80, he learned to play computer games, especially Solitaire, on a computer given to him by his dear friends Jeanette and Rick Kretzmer. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all of his longtime friends, too many to list by name, but not to be forgotten by his family. He is survived by his two daughters, Alexa Becker McClain of Middletown and Claudia Becker of Colchester; a sister, Elsie Brylowe and her husband Lee, of Colchester and was predeceased by both his sister Mae Braun and her husband Chet of California. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Tracy McClain of Phoenix, AZ, Clayton Alexander McClain of Portland, Alycia McClain and Douglas McClain, both of Middletown and eight great-grandchildren, having only three in Connecticut (Diamond, Monique and Adam McClain). They grew to know and love their great grandfather dearly. He also leaves four nieces, Beverly and Lynn Brylowe of Colchester, Saundra Einkauf of Florida and Carol Gulbrand of Oregon and a nephew, Edd Braun of Arlington, VA. The definition of a great Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend could be found in Alexander Becker. There will be no wake or funeral. The ashes of Alexander and Frances Becker will be buried at sea this summer. Please contact Alexa McClain at 1241-8 Washington Street, Middletown, CT 06457 if you would like to be present and on board for this Ocean Memorial. The McClain Family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Alexander P. Becker to Amazing Grace at 139 Main Street Extension, Middletown, CT 06457, which will carry on his tradition of always helping those less fortunate. Oak Grove Cremation Service.
