Alexander Whitney Obituary

WHITNEY, Alexander John Alexander John Whitney, 18, of Farmington, died on Wednesday (May 21, 2008), in Maine due to an accident on May 20, 2008. Born July 17, 1989 in Waterbury, he was the beloved son of Mark J. and Carolyn (Noel) Whitney of Farmington. Alex was a Freshman Forestry major at the University of Main in Orono and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. At the time of his death, Alex was involved in a field forestry course. Alex loved watching UMaine Hockey, forestry, hiking, and being outdoors. Alex was an Eagle Scout, an assistant scoutmaster in BSA Troop 68, and a member of Sea Scout Ship 3. Alex was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and held numerous Order of the Arrow lodge and chapter offices, culminating in Lodge Chief. Alex earned 6 Eagle palms and 63 merit badges. Alex was an NHS member and an honors graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School, Class of 2007. Alex loved playing his guitar, driving his 1992 Dodge Spirit and being with his close friends. Besides his parents, he is survived by his sister, Nicole N. Whitney of Westport, his uncle and aunt, David and Roberta Whitney of North Andover, his aunt, Dawn Pratt of Plymouth, his uncle and aunt, Peter and Roseanne Whitney of Plymouth and his uncle and aunt, Lawrence E. and Deborah Noel III of Waterbury. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Saturday May 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Patrick, Farmington at 12 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic High School, Stafford Avenue, Bristol, CT 06010 or University of Maine, School of Forest Resources, Orono, ME 04469 attn: Bill Livingston.
