CASSELLA, Alice Marie B.
Alice Marie Baccelli Cassella, 95, of 35 Hamden Hills Dr., form. of Gorham Ave., Hamden, died January 29, 2013 at Masonic Care, Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Anthony A. Cassella. Alice was born in New Haven, Feb. 9, 1917, the daughter of the late Leone and Anita Poli Baccelli and graduated from Commercial High School and Grace Hospital School of Nursing in New Haven. She was employed as a dental assistant to Dr. George Montano and she also worked for Berger Bros. in New Haven as an inspector. During World War II she ran the family business, College Highway Service Station, in New Haven. Upon her husband's return from the war, they married and started their family, jointly running the family gas station and a farm in Hamden. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother to her family, teaching family values and traditions that her children and grandchildren will never forget. Because of her strong values, her children would not be as successful as they are, and we thank her and love her for the mother and nonnie that she was to us. For the past 40 years, Saturday afternoons were spent at nonnie's with her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, and in her words; "If they had a girls team she would be on it and be the captain". She is survived by her children, Diane Cassella and Leonore Iannucci (Thomas), all of Hamden, and Joseph A. Cassella (Jan) of Southington; grandchildren, Alicia Ferro (James), Thomas Iannucci, Diana Iannucci (Jeff Westscott), Aimee Cassella and Andrea Cassella. She was pre-deceased by sisters, Lillian Aiello and Frances Grieb.
Funeral Friday at 10:30 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. and at Blessed Sacrament Churh at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Freinds may call Friday morning from 8:30-10:30 a.m. In lieu if flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mulitple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Ave., Hartford, Ct. 06112.
