CARROLL, Ann Martin Ann Martin Carroll, 69, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, (December 9, 2008) after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Ann is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert; her daughter Patty of Pasadena, CA; her son Tom and his wife Shannon; with grandchildren Daniel and Jessica of Lynchburg, VA. She is also survived by her three brothers, George Martin of New Britain, David Martin of Danbury, and Bill and Linda Martin of New Hartford; cousin Jim and Sharon Martin of Westfield, MA; and her sisters-in-law, Mother Mary Jennifer of Sacred Heart in New Britain, and Christine and Dale Rose of Newton, KS. She was beloved by all, including her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Ann was born in Foxboro, MA on April 11, 1939, and after a short time in New York, moved to Norwalk, where she grew up in the parsonage as daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Harold Martin. Ann was a graduate of Norwalk High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in both the Norwalk and Suffield school systems in Connecticut. Ann and Bob were married on August 20, 1966, and they made a home in Suffield, where they raised their two children and enjoyed a life full of church activities, community involvement, gardening and music. They moved to Lynchburg, VA in 2006. Ann was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Suffield, and most recently of Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. She also loved music, singing in local church and community choirs, participating annually in the Berkshire Choral Festival and as an active member of the Springfield Symphony Chorus for 15 years. Dear Bob and Family,

I was reading the Observer this morning, and my heart was saddened when I saw Ann's name. I went online and checked the Courant's obituaries and saw her picture and said "yes, that’s Ann", always with a smile...I am so sorry.

I have thought of Ann often over the years. One of many things that make me think of her is when I receive a schedule of the SSO, that was her doing. The first time I went was because of the two of you. I remember back then thinking, "I had no idea of her many talents", yours too Bob! My husband and I had a wonderful evening.

I think the happiest I ever saw her was when the twins were born, how excited she was! Then when she told me you were moving to VA, she was on a cloud!

On April 11th I will toast her birthday as that is something that she and I shared.

Peace to you all.

Sincerely,

Donnalee Vanier,

Dianne Grosz

Dear Bob and family,
Ann and I had years of fun and laughs together...right up to a few days before the 9th. Our home has many gifts from Ann....from potholders to pillowcases to a quilt!! What a constant, beautiful reminder of the wonderful person she was. I do praise God for taking Ann home. Just think, we will all be in heaven together again someday. My prayers will be with you all for God's strength, peace and direction in the days ahead.
Love, Dianne Grosz

Dear Bob, Tommy and Patty
I can't express how I felt when I received your news about Ann. I can't think of anyone else that was more kind, open minded, supportative, and loving than Ann. She will be very much missed back here in Suffield, Ct. If there were more women like Ann Carroll the world would be a much better place. The girls and I are very sorry for your loss, but how lucky you were to have her all this time. Love and miss you all.

Ann's presence in our lives made us all richer. Her strength and courage in the face of illness made us stronger in our own battles. We grieve and miss our dear friend but find comfort in His assurance that we will be together again before Him in Glory. God's blessings upon Bob and Ann's entire family.
