Ann Walters Obituary

Ann Carol Terp was born on June 5, 1937 to the late Carl Terp and Ellen Peterson Terp of East Hampton; loving wife to Joseph Walters and mother of Christine Costa; mother-in-law of Peter Costa and grandmother of Nicholas and Christopher Costa. Ann passed away at the age of 84 early Sunday morning on July 25, 2021 peacefully in her sleep in her favorite chair with her dog on her lap at home. Ann grew up in East Hampton and graduated in 1955 from East Hampton High School. She briefly attended nursing school before enlisting in the Women's Army Corp and being stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. She returned to Connecticut and East Hampton in 1958. She married Joseph Walters in 1967 and they moved to Meriden where they resided until 1972 when they returned to the family home in East Hampton. Ann retired from Canberra Industries in Meriden after over 20 years of service in 2001. She joined the Lions Club in 2003. She loved to travel; talk on the phone and upon returning from vacation would begin planning the next one. She loved road trips and the many new people and lifelong friends she met during her travels. She hated to fly but enjoyed the trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand with her husband, Joe. She enjoyed cruises and especially the opportunity to make new friends while enjoying each other's company at dinner for the week. She was an avid reader, knitter and crocheter. She looked forward to hosting high school class reunion picnics at their home in East Hampton. She loved kids no matter who they belonged to and often became Aunt Ann or Grammy Ann to many wonderful kids who are now grown with their own families who still fondly remember her. She remained lifelong friends with her neighbor, Ellen Nordstrom Pettengill and newer friends like Boris and Carmela Lashenka, Scott and Gina LaRose and so many more people she met through work or in their travels. In her later years Alzheimer's began to knock on her door, we were fortunate to add a kind and gentle caregiver and friend to our family, Charlene Hall. Thanks to everyone tirelessly working together, Joe and Charlene especially, Ann was able to stay in her family home during her aging years and pass peacefully in her favorite chair. The real gift during this process was that she still remembered who her family and friends were and could call them by name when they came to visit. She was loved and will be missed by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Walters; her daughter and son-in-law Christine and Peter Costa, she was always bragging about her grandsons and their adventures, Nicholas and Christopher Costa; lastly we will be eternally grateful to Charlene for always being there so Ann was able to stay in her own home no matter what. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Thursday evening from 6PM until 8PM. Funeral services will be held Friday morning in the funeral home at 10AM with burial to follow in Skinnerville Cemetery. A celebration of life picnic will be held at the family home in the near future and all will be invited. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the East Hampton Lions Club or the Alzheimer's Research Foundation. East Hampton Lions Club, PO Box 153, East Hampton, CT 06024 in memory of Ann Walters. Uncle Joe, Christine and Peter
Aunt Ann will surely be missed. We were blessed to have her always be a part of our life since I could remember. I have many happy memories and will miss her smile. So sorry we were not there at the wake, but just found out of her passing. Our pryers and thoughts are with you all.
