Arlene Nowik Obituary

Arlene E. Nowik, 69, of New Britain, beloved sister, auntie, and cousin, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Hospital of Central CT, New Britain after a brave battle with cancer. Arlene was born on April 1st, 1954 in New Britain to Sigmund and Lucy (Sumoski) Nowik.

A generous and compassionate person, Arlene's life was defined by her deep faith and service to others. Whether cooking or baking for family and friends, volunteering, spending time with her nieces/nephews, or teaching, Arlene did it all with great love. She was a teacher for more than 35 years, spending most of that time at Timothy Edwards Middle School in South Windsor, where she retired in 2013. Even after retirement, she volunteered in the classrooms at St. Joseph School in Bristol, finding great joy in working with the children there. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed many summers at her beach house. Arlene's kindness and generous spirit touched so many during her life, including the doctors, nurses, and hospital team who took care of her during her final days.

Arlene is survived by her two brothers Robert Nowik (Barbara) of Berlin, CT and Douglas Nowik (Nancy) of Summerville, SC; her nephews Timothy Nowik (Tammy) of Berlin, CT and Thomas Nowik (Ellen) of Portland, CT, her nieces Kelly Nowik Whitham (Alex) of Coventry, CT and Megan Nowik (Alex DuVernois) of Boston, MA; her great nieces Morgan Nowik, Aria Whitham, and many cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, aunts, and uncles.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 5pm until 7pm at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT 06053. A procession will assemble on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 9:15am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen St., Bristol, CT. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Arlene's honor to the American Cancer Society.

Dear Nowik Family, I worked with Arlene at TEMS and we were good friends for many years. She had a genuine heart and always gave back to others. She shared her amazing baking skills by sending treats my way all the time. Arlene was a strong and courageous lady. I am grateful to have called her a close friend. Rest In Peace my dear friend.

Arlene was a angel on earth. She cared and prayed for others even animals. Her mission and love was cooking and caring for others. But now she has left us and is a angel in heaven. I love you and will miss you.

Arlene was a strong advocate for teaching and learning. She embraced her students with the belief that everyone can learn and be successful.
In addition to being her former principal, it was also a privilege to call her my friend, and a close one at that. Her strong faith gave her the courage and strength to continue with her life during these difficult times. There is now a new angel in heaven, Arlene, looking over us.
Love always,
Jan Tirinzonie

Arlene was the consummate professional who was an exemplary English teacher and human being. Her love for her subject matter and the middle school students in her charge was obvious. There is no question that she positively impacted the lives of her students and her colleagues. Best to her family and friends as I know she will be missed, Laura Boutilier

To the Nowik family. My name is Bob Schmidt and I worked with Arlene at Timothy Edward´s Middle School for many years. She was an excellent English teacher and made my job easier as a social studies teacher. I retired with Arlene in 2013. I´m sorry for your loss. She helped many students become better writers!

I am so s when I lived in sorry for your loss. Ms. Nowik was my 8th grade English teacher when I lived in CT. We moved to North Carolina in 1988. I would always stay in contact with her through emails and Christmas cards. She was an inspiration to us all. She was the one teacher who made me want to work with children. She will be truly missed. Rest In Peace beautiful and sweet lady.
