HAMEL, Barbara Jane
Barbara Jane Hamel, 85, of Dibble Hollow in Windsor Locks, formerly of Windsor, passed away Friday, (December 23, 2011). She was the beloved wife of 67 years to Art Hamel of Windsor Locks. Daughter of the late Herbert S. and Ann Wyer, Barbara was born in Hartford on March 4, 1926 and was a graduate of Bulkeley High School Class of 1943. Her family moved to Windsor in 1947 where she was a faithful communicant of St. Gabriel Parish for over 40 years. After Art retired in the late 80s, the couple lived in Florida and Cape Cod for twelve years before returning to Connecticut. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride and joy in raising her family and caring for her home. She is loved and mourned by her husband Art and three sons, Arthur "Skip" and his wife Joyce of Windsor, Richard and his wife Irene of Harwinton, and Chris and his wife Denise of East Hampton; and four grandchildren, Becky Tiscia and her husband Patrick of Bristol, Jason Hamel of Harwinton, and Brian Hamel and Michele Hamel both of East Hampton. She also leaves a brother, Herb Wyer and his wife Denise of Wellfleet, MA, a sister-in-law, Helena Hamel of Meriden, and six nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will begin from Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 8:30 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church in Windsor. Burial will be private at the request of her family. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
