Bernard A. Gebler

Bernard 'Bernie' Gebler July 7, 1929 - October 4, 2022 Bernie passed away peacefully on October 4, 2022, at Belmont Village Assisted Living in Aliso Viejo, CA. Born in Rockville, CT son of the late Adolph and Amelia (Fiedler) Gebler. Bernie grew up in Rockville, CT graduating from Rockville High School and the University of Hartford which he was able to attend on the GI bill after spending four years in the Navy. He enjoyed a lengthy career at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft working as an aeronautical engineer, designing airplane engines. Bernie loved auto racing, woodworking, flying model airplanes, and helping others, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. Bernie married Lois Lanz in February 1951. He always said he fell in love with her the first time he saw her at the grocery store where he worked at his first job.They settled in Rockville after his Navy service. Bernie designed and built their forever home in Ellington, right next to the Lanz family farm. In1990, they retired to Plantation, FL before moving in 2007 to Laguna Woods, CA to be closer to family. Bernie and Lois were married 71 years. Bernie is survived by his daughter, Jill Harmon (husband Tim) of Corona del Mar, CA, two granddaughters, Molly Finnegan (husband Mike) of Rye Brook, NY, Dr. Kate Harmon of Culver City, CA, and two great grandchildren, Emerson and James Finnegan of Rye Brook, NY. Bernie was loved and admired by all. He had a unique blend of funny, smart, caring, devoted, and humble. Bernie will be missed and mourned by many. Calling hours will be at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon on Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 5-7 pm. A graveside service will be in the Ellington Center Cemetery, 95 Maple St. in Ellington on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 2:30 pm with Military Honors.
