Brian Greer Obituary

Brian Alexander Greer, of Loudon, TN and formerly of Portland, CT, beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on May 8, 2023. He was 69 years old.

Brian was born and raised in Bristol, CT, and was a 1971 graduate of Bristol Eastern High School. He continued his education at Bucknell University, majoring in business, pledging the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, and participating in the Army ROTC program. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the Air Defense Artillery Branch and was stationed in Germany. Brian achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. He was proud to have served his country, following in the footsteps of his father and brother.

After leaving active duty, Brian returned to Bristol and was lucky enough to move in next door to the love of his life, Kate. They soon married and had two children, Sarah and Doug. In 1987, the young family moved to Portland, CT and made this their home.

Brian held several jobs in manufacturing before settling into a role as a personnel recruiter at RJS Associates in Hartford. He worked hard and took on positions of increasing responsibility, eventually becoming President and Owner of the company. He took great pride in the work he did and always made himself available to friends and family to do interview prep or share job search advice. Despite a busy career, Brian was a fixture at Sarah and Doug's school activities and sporting events, always their biggest cheerleader.

When Brian and Kate retired, they moved south to Tellico Village in Loudon, TN. Here, they were greeted by a strong community of dear friends and neighbors. Brian especially enjoyed golfing, playing pool, boating on the lake, cheering for the Boston Red Sox, and sharing dinners and laughter with friends.

In recent years, he was excited to celebrate both his children's weddings and welcome Brandon and Emily Michele to the family. One of Brian's greatest joys came from the birth of his grandson Bolton (Bo) in 2022; he looked forward to their frequent FaceTime calls and was so pleased to host Bo for a week filled with smiles and cuddles.

To be Brian's friend was to have a friend for life and he considered himself truly lucky to have maintained a strong network from all of his "worlds". This group was a critical support throughout his illness, sending motivation, jokes, and love to keep him pushing. His family and friends remember the class clown, always ready with a joke and easy to laugh, but also a man of integrity who was a trusted confidant when you needed to talk.

Brian was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen S. Greer, of Loudon, TN, and his father, William B. Greer, of Bristol, CT.

Brian is survived by his mother, Winifred Greer, of Loudon, TN; his daughter Sarah and her husband Brandon Barrett of Simsbury, CT; his son Douglas Greer and his wife Emily Michele Olmsted of Dartmouth, MA; his grandson Bolton Greer; his brother David Greer (Judith) of Jasper, GA; brothers- and sisters-in-law Robert Schneider (Catherine) of Newton Center, MA, William Schneider (Lee) of Bozeman, Montana, Marjorie Schneider (Edward Shirley) of Scottsdale, AZ, Edward Schneider (Leigh Ann) of Williamsburg, VA, and Patricia Schneider (Norman Berg) of Southington, CT; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and goddaughters across the country.

Brian's family would like to thank Dr. Wahid Hanna and everyone at Hanna Cancer Associates and the team of care givers at Senior Helpers of Knoxville for taking excellent care of their Dad.

Doug and Sarah please accept my deepest sympathy. Your dad and mom were great parents especially through your high school years. As your principal it was wonderful to witness the support and encouragement they provided to you. I´m sure they are reunited in heaven and happy to be together. Be strong during these difficult times. You both were great students and I´m sure will continue on to be wonderful citizens.

Dear family,
Brian and Kate-- two of the nicest people I have ever known.
I worked with Kate at Glastonbury Healthcare and we became great friends. I met Brian at my husband´s art show in South Windsor.
Brian was a true gentleman- devoted to Kate and both of them totally devoted to their beloved children.
It is comforting to know both his children are married and there is a grandson! And he was around to enjoy their lives!
My heart goes out to you - and Brian´s mother- in sympathy and consolation.
I wish you peace and love for the days ahead.
Most fondly,
Ann Fahey
