A life long friend since kindergarten. Carl, Lary and I were like brothers. For whatever reason I'm still standing. When my time comes I look forward to joining all of the family

I met, had dinner and played basketball for Coach Selavka in 1975. Coach Selavka taught me personally, and his team many lessons, if you were paying attention. He told me stories about his tours in Viet Nam and the growth of boys to men. Before the start of our 1975 basketball season, but during practice, the team was messing around shooting, trying to dunk a ball, any kind of ball. I'm going through the rim touching routine when Coach Selavka comes over to me and says. "Tommy, why are you jumping from the dotted line?" He then showed me a takeoff point and to jump straight up, low and behold, whoa, I could jump. The little lessons change everything.

Coach Selavka will always hold a special place in my heart. His excellent coaching helped us to win the the first women's state class "s" cross country championship in East Hampton's school history and the first state championship in any women's sport at East Hampton. We only had 6 runners and his training and his believing we could do it was what got us that Championship. I personally feel blessed to have had the BEST coach who coached me through 4 successful years at East Hampton high school. Thank you coach Selavka! You had an amazing life. RIP. Love, Sheila Pekari Mongiat

Coach Selavka was as fine a man as I've ever met. His compassion, intelligence and good humor made him a role model for all of us whose lives he touched. My life was greatly enriched by Carl and his family. Matt, Ned and Mike, be well.

Carl "Coach" Selavka bought me my first pair of real running shoes. I'll credit him with giving me the support and encouragement that I needed as a young high school student. He was an amazing man. His memory will live on with many. Love you coach.

I remember Mr. Selavka well as the East Hampton XC coach. I ran for Cromwell. He was much an advocate for me as if he were at my high school. I have often wondered his whereabouts. He comes from an era when coaches were true mentors. God bless him.
