Carolyn P. Soares

Carolyn (Peterson) Soares, 71, of Vernon, beloved wife of 40 years to Paul E. Soares, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was born on August 23, 1952, in Newton, MA, daughter to the late Herbert and Beverly (LaFrance) Peterson.

Lyn attended Vernon schools and was a graduate of Rockville High School. Following high school, she continued her education earning her master's degree in early childhood education from the University of Connecticut. Lyn was employed as a 4th grade teacher at Northeast Elementary School, in Vernon, for 37 years before her retirement in 2012. In her spare time, you could find her tending to her flower and vegetable gardens or playing with her two cats, Oswald and Isabel. Lyn enjoyed spending her summers on the Cape and frequently visited various beaches, especially Popponesset Beach in Mashpee, MA. Lyn looked forward to being with her family and friends for birthdays and other gatherings, as well as during the holidays as she was very proud of her Swedish traditions. Although our time with Lyn has been cut short, her memory will be held closely in the hearts of all who have known her for years to come.

In addition to her husband, Paul, Lyn is survived by her sister, Meredith Waites and her husband Loyd of Essex, MA; her nephew, Loyd Waites, III; her sisters-in-law, Judith Vellone and her husband John of Centerville, MA, and Carol Cauthen of Hyannis, MA; as well as other nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother-in-law, Bill Cauthen; and three cats, Smokey, Bozo and Bandit.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Rte 83) in Vernon. There will be no formal service. A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date at Popponesset Beach on the Cape.
