BUCKWELL, Catherine Jean
Catherine Jean Buckwell, 97, of New Britain, passed away on Saturday, (May 26, 2012) at the Jerome Home. She was the widow of Donald E. Buckwell. Born in Framingham, MA, she was one of four children and was the daughter of the late David and Annie (MacKenzie) Marshall. Her two brothers, who were much older than Catherine and her sister Lorina, served in World War I, with one of her brothers being killed in France. Lorina also lived at the Jerome home, and predeceased her there. Catherine graduated from Framingham High School and Framingham State University in 1937. She was a New Britain resident most of her life and was formerly employed as the Assistant Registrar at Central Connecticut State University. She was a member of South Church in New Britain for over 70 years and was a former member of the Board of Education in New Britain. Surviving are a son, James D. Buckwell and his wife Alison; a daughter Janice B. Mazadoorian and her husband Attorney Harry Mazadoorian; six grandchildren, Donald Everett Buckwell II and his wife Diana, David Hale Buckwell, Raymond Mark Glover and his fiancée Susan, Beth Jean Mazadoorian and her husband Wilson Keithline, Lynne Cook Mazadoorian and her husband John Lockhart, Douglas Marshall Buckwell and his wife Shelly; six great-grandchildren, Lindsay Buckwell, James Buckwell II, Daley Buckwell, Margaret Keithline, Catherine Keithline, and Elena Buckwell; four nieces, Gwen Wetmore, Susan Fisher, Barbara Shaw, Judith Brewer; and a cousin, Ann Connor. Catherine's family would like to thank the staff at Jerome Home, especially Rosa, for their loving care.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at South Church. A reception will follow in the Assyrian Parlor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Buckwell Bell Tower Fund at South Church, 90 Main St., New Britain, CT 06051. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
