Cecil CHASE Obituary

CHASE, Cecil P. Cecil P. Chase, 90, beloved husband of 62 years to Lucille (Pierce) Chase, passed away peacefully April 26, 2010, at Johnson and Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, CT. He was born March 17, 1920, in Atkinson, ME, the eldest of nine children of the late Henry F. Sr. and Flora "Gertrude" V. (Trask) Chase. Cecil grew up on a farm and learned early the value of hard work, which continued throughout his life. He attended the University of Maine at Brunswick. He did many types of work, including carpentry. He worked at Wyandotte Woolen Mill, Pittsfield, MA, for 6 years. After moving to CT, he worked at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks for 27 years, retiring as supervisor of the Engineering Labs in the Experimental Dept. He possessed a great mechanical ability and throughout his lifetime was able to build, fix, and make improvements to nearly anything mechanical, as well as to his home and travel trailer. To him, there was a solution to every problem – the impossible just took a little longer. His great love, other than that for his wife and daughter and the rest of his family, was for travel. He took his wife and daughter on many vacations (some extended) throughout the US and Canada, so that they could all experience the beauty of nature and the wonderful and varied scenery of the land, especially at National Parks. He was particularly fond of mountains and much time was spent in the Rocky Mountains and other areas. For the first two years after he retired, he and his wife were able to travel for two-three months at a time with their trailer. Historical sites were also of great interest on the family's travels. When not traveling or at work, Cecil worked hard at gardening and landscaping around the family home, and always seemed to find something to tinker with or improve. He was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church in Suffield, CT, where he had served as a deacon and also as church President. He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Windsor Locks, CT; a daughter, Kathleen Todd and her husband, James C. of Collinsville, CT; three brothers, Robert L. Chase, Terry J. Chase and his wife, Mary Lou, and Harold W. Chase and his wife, Roxanne; three sisters, Joyce M. Leavitt, Elizabeth L. Stevens and her husband Lester, and Pauline F. Norwood; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Chase. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry F. Chase Jr., two brothers-in-law, William Leavitt and Maurice Norwood, and a sister, Florence G. Libby. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, ME, with Pastor Chris Viera officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Second Baptist Church, 100 North Main St., Suffield, CT 06078. My thoughts and prayers are with the rest of the family and friends. I'm sorry I cannot make the funeral in person. I remember going through the stacks of pictures of all the trips as a child. He was always so excited to share.
My love to all.

The obituary says it all. Mr. Chase was amazing ... 90 years old and still doing his yard work - Stevens Street will not be the same with out Stan and Cecil conversing about their lawns....
Mrs. Chase and Kathy please know that my family's thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
