Charles Lewis Slade

1944 - 2022

Charles Lewis Slade of Westbrook, CT, beloved husband of Rosemary Quinn Slade passed away in perfect peace with his family by his side at Middlesex Hospital on December 9, 2022.

Charles was the son of Ruth Mentzer Slade and Chester Brown Slade, both of whom predeceased him. He was born on June 29, 1944 in Cambridge, MA, and moved to West Hartford, CT in 1953. He was Real Estate Broker from 1972 to 2022. Charles had a visionary spirit, and in 1986 he purchased a real estate franchise, ReMax of Farmington. This was the first ReMax office in the Greater Hartford area; he had loyal employees as well as longtime real estate agents. This was his proudest professional lifetime accomplishment.

He was a 30+ year member of the First Church of Christ, Unionville, CT and served many roles there, such as deacon, usher, and hospitality servant.

He married Rosemary Quinn Slade on April 4, 1970, and together they created a wonderful family. He leaves his son Steven, and wife Jennifer Spielman Slade and his daughter Kimberly Deckett and her husband Mark. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren; Alison and Sarah Slade, Elizabeth, Christopher, and Andrew Deckett. He also leaves his aunt Lois Kendall of Falmouth, MA, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He leaves his half siblings Samuel, Elizabeth, and David Slade of Guilford, CT. He was predeceased by his sister Judith Slade in 1981 and infant son, James Eric Slade in 1979.

Throughout the last decade, he and Rosemary have had a wonderful life fulfilling their retirement dreams at the beach in Westbrook, CT.

Gratitude to the entire Middlesex Hospital staff, each and every one had a profound impact on his stay in the ICU, 5 north, and the comfort care hospice unit. Thank you for caring so deeply for our loved one.

The funeral service will be held at the First Church of Christ in Unionville, CT on Saturday, December 17th at 1:00pm with burial to follow in Burlington Center Cemetery.
