Christopher Hodges Obituary

Christopher Alan Hodges, 81, passed away on Friday March 5, 2021 unexpectedly following extensive heart surgery. Born on December 19, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, Chris grew up locally in Agawam, MA. He graduated from Trinity College with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and completed his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in Washington state. He was married to his first wife, Judith (Warren) Wood for 15 years and then his best friend, June (Sharp) Hodges, for over 45 years. Chris held the rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps and flew the F-4 Phantom fighter jet in Vietnam and was a Mechanical Engineer who worked for Boeing and UTC/Pratt & Whitney for over 35 years. Woodworking was his passion and he was an accomplished furniture maker. He enjoyed hiking, white water canoeing, and loved outdoor adventures, especially with family. He greatly appreciated Native American culture and was an accomplished artist in any medium – drawing, painting, sculpture, beadwork. Chris volunteered his time to help others through his work with Habitat for Humanity, HomeFront, and his carpentry business after retiring from UTC. He could fix anything and was artistically gifted. He had a dry sense of humor and a generous heart who saw the value in everyone and will be sorely missed by all. He wanted to share his knowledge and experience in life with all he knew. Chris loved his family and invested his life in his children and grandchildren to set an example for them to follow and exceed. He leaves behind his loving wife June (Sharp) Hodges, his four children: Scott Hodges and his wife Diane of Westfield, MA, Cheryl (Hodges) Barbarotto and her husband Anthony of Lakeland, TN, Christine (Hodges) Avery and her partner Darren Sautor of Felton, CA and Jonathan Hodges and his wife Sheila of Woodbury, CT, along with 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours or funeral arrangements in accordance with Christopher's wishes. If you desire to make a donation, Christopher would say to donate your time, knowledge and your love to the community around you in need.

To June, Jon and all the family my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I have wonderful memories of our times together so long ago at the house and cabin and hope you can take comfort in all of your wonderful memories you have and celebrate Chris’ life. It’s an honor to have known such an incredible, loving and talented man who served and gave so much of himself selflessly.

May God surround you all with his loving peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time. Chris was a wonderful example of what sharing the love of Christ looked like. I will never forget his time spent volunteering with Sparrow Ministries - he was such a blessing to those in need in the Hartford Community.

We are so sorry for your loss. His love will live in all of you.
We first met Chris when we hired him to do remodeling at our home in Suffield. We appreciated being able to trust not only the quality of his work but him as a person. We valued his integrity and kindness, He spoke of his family often and his love and pride was to be admired.
Our best to all of you,
Warmly,
Janice and Bruce Allbee

So saddened to hear of the loss of such a great man. I unfortunately never had the honor or privilege of meeting him but I work closely with his son, Scott and I know that family means the world to him. My condolences to Scott and all of Christopher's family and friends.
