HARDING, Clifford V. Jr. Ph.D.
Clifford Vincent Harding Jr., Ph.D., husband of the late Drusilla Ruth (Van Hoesen) Harding, died May 25th after a brief illness. The son of Clifford V. and Lillian (Blinkhorn) Harding, Dr. Harding was born in Cranston, RI and was a graduate of Brown, Yale, and U Pennsylvania, where his future wife, Drusilla, was a fellow doctoral student. Post-doctoral fellowships took them to the Wenner-Gren Institute in Stockholm and Zoological Station in Naples, followed by work at U Southern California, Atomic Energy Commission (Washington, DC), U Pennsylvania, and Columbia U. He was the founding chairman of the biology department at Oakland U, Rochester, MI and then moved to the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State U, Detroit, MI. He spent nearly fifty summers working at the Marine Biological Laboratory Woods Hole, MA, publishing more than 150 scientific papers. An avid genealogist, he also wrote a book on Harding genealogy. Dr Harding leaves two sons, Dr. Clifford V. Harding III and his wife, Dr. Mina K. Chung of Shaker Heights. OH, and Dr. Richard H. Harding and his wife, Cynthia Crowell Harding of South Windsor, CT, as well as four grandchildren, Clifford V. Harding IV of Ann Arbor, MI, Andrew R. Harding and his wife, Andrea Harding, of Shaker Heights, OH, and Helen Harding and May Harding of South Windsor, CT.
A memorial service will be held at Church of the Messiah, Woods Hole, MA on Saturday. August 24 at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marine Biological Laboratory, Development Office, 7 MBL Street, Woods Hole, MA 02543.
