Cynthia O'Leary Obituary

Cynthia O'Leary, daughter of Alfred G. and Mildred (Sherman) Melvin, passed away due to complications of dementia on Sunday, December 11, 2022. Cyndi was born on April 12, 1935 in Yonkers, NY and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1953. She worked with her husband Jack at Oak Hill School for the Blind from 1954-57. After being a stay-at-home Mom while her kids got through school, she then returned to the workforce at the State Capitol as a clerk for the Education Committee for 10 years under Se, Edith Prague, who she greatly admired. Cyndi served for 6 years on the Wethersfield Board of Education, a position that she thoroughly enjoyed! She also worked for 4 years at Old Colony Real Estate and was the owner and chief cook for the Red Onion Catering business. Cyndi loved a good party, singing, a strong gin and tonic or a glass of white wine with ice! She made epic gourmet holiday meals, handwriting the courses for all to see. When Jack was working on those holidays, he would bring the out-of-town officers home with him to join us in our celebration! We met and got to know so many and they got fed some great food lovingly prepared by Mom.

Cyndi loved vacationing on Cape Cod surrounded by her family on the bay side of Eastham. She and Jack traveled to the Old Sod twice and fell in love with Ireland and its people. But Cyndi's greatest love was for her family as a wife, mother, grandmother (Amma) and great grandmother. She is survived by her son Sean and his wife Dee, son Kevin and his wife Sue and her daughter Kathleen, grandchildren Matthew O'Leary (Shannon), Chelsea Siddiqui (Farooq), Patrick O'Leary, Matthew Picard (Liz) Megan O'Leary, Jason O'Leary (Abby), Stephen O'Leary, Rachel O'Leary (Brandon), Justin O'Leary and Emma Kate O'Leary. Cyndi also leaves her great-grandchildren Connor and Hunter Picard, Diana and Cynthia Siddiqui, and Noah and Lucas O'Leary as well as her former daughter-in-law Lori O'Leary and several nieces and nephews and their families. Cyndi was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Jack, her son Brian and her brother Gerald and his wife Jo.

We will miss you every day Mom, but we know you're with Dad, Charlie and Doe, kicking your heels up and laughing while watching over us all. In lieu of flowers, please offer a smile and an act of kindness toward someone in need.

Friends may call on Tuesday December 20, 2022 from 9:00 to 9:45 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be celebrated at 10:00 in Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will be private. So long ago yet so many memories:
- potato chips on top of the fridge in kitchen...
- Mimi in her room at the end of the hallway (I was her favorite)
- posing as Iron Butterfly playing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida in the living room...
- your dad in his police uniform...

all with your mom within ear/eyesight!
God rest your soul, Mrs. O´Leary
