Daniel Sudarsky Obituary

Daniel Sudarsky, 76, of Hillcrest Dr., Stuart, FL, died Friday, (August 29, 2003) at Nantucket Cottage Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Sudarsky had a special gift for forming friendships with people of all walks of life. He treated all with kindness and respect and this endeared him to all those who knew him. Born in Hartford, he spent the last ten years wintering in Stuart and returning to Nantucket for the Summer. Mr. Sudarsky graduated from Hartford schools and attended the King's Point Maritime Academy, King's Point, NY. He served honorably in the Merchant Marine during World War II and was stationed in Japan following the war's end. Following the war, Mr. Sudarsky returned to Hartford where he began his corporate career first as President of Superior Steel Ball in New Britain and was involved in the founding of Hoosier Magnetics in Washington, IN. In 1957, he returned to Hartford when Superior Steel Ball merged with Colonial Board, forming Lydall, Inc. Mr. Sudarsky was credited with growing the new company during its initial years leaving to serve as CEO and President, Mountain Paper Company, Bellows Falls, VT for six years and later returning to Hoosier Magnetics where he retired as Vice President from Hoosier Magnetics, in 1988 and continued to serve on the Board of Directors. As a young adult he summered on the shores of Woodmont and developed a love for the ocean. This love of the water evolved over the years to include a passion for saltwater fishing and boating. He was the owner of a number of sailing and power yachts, most notably the Ursa Major a 65 foot Southern Marine Long Range Trawler Yacht which he kept at Mystic and sailed throughout the Long Island and Nantucket Sounds. It was through his boating that he began to visit Nantucket Island which served as a vacation spot and for a while (1989-2000) his home. Mr. Sudarsky was a long time member of the Nantucket Angler's Club. He organized the first conference at the White Elephant resort on Nantucket for the Young President's Organization and remained active in that organization moving on the 49er's Organization. Nantucket was a place he deeply cherished and sought to be there at the end of his life. Mr. Sudarsky was a long time fan of the New York Giants having held season's tickets to Giants games following them as they traveled from the Old Polo Grounds, to Yankee Stadium and to their current home at the Meadowlands. He was an avid amateur radio operator from the age of 18 attaining an advanced class license. His call sign K1MWU was regularly heard in chats wherever he lived. During Ella Grasso's term as Governor, she appointed him to serve on the Governor's Commission on Waste Management. He was a founding member of the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation. He is survived by Ann Sudarsky (Miller), his loving wife of ten years and he was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Sylviann Sudarsky (Levine). He leaves two brothers, Michael Sudarsky of Hartford and West Palm Beach, Peter Sudarsky of New York, NY; four children, Mark Sudarsky (deceased), Martha Kristy of Hyattsville, MD, John Sudarsky of Monkton, VT, Matthew Sudarsky of West Tisbury, MA, and Dora Sudarsky, O.D. of South Burlington, VT; ten grandchildren; and his close nieces, Laura Sudarsky, M.D., Julie Gross, and Jennifer Lopez, M.D.; and his extended family by marriage, Allison Cohen of Cotuit, MA and her four children, James McDonough Marstons Mills, MA, Philip McDonough of Scottsdale, AZ, and Abbigail McDonough of New York, NY. We traveled cross country and stopped in Washington Indiana to see a ham we held daily scheds with.

Didn't see much of Sil because she was about to give birth. It didn't stop Dan from offering up some homemade ice cream, a cookout and a place to reignite our energy. Our friendship grew from there. I am 55 and have known the Sudarsky clan for neary 40 years. Everything that was said by Friends and relatives is true and then some. Ann, I hope Dan is still hamming up there... I know I will miss his friendly words every time we talked.

I have never met a man who was liked by everyone he met as Danny was. He was touched by all his friends, especially the Hams that he ate with, visited with and talked with. He was my best friend.

73, Danny. May God go with you always.

73's Danny. As he use to say on the ham radio... "The handle here is Daniel, like Daniel in the lions den".

He taught me generosity that helped form my personality. To know Danny is an honor. He was the best of the best with a heart of gold! He will never be forgotten!!
