Daniel Verre Obituary

Daniel F. Verre, 33, son of Mark A. Verre and the late Sheila McMahon Verre, passed away on Sunday October 3rd, 2021, due to an apparent overdose. Dan was residing in Wethersfield after living in Middletown, West Haven, North Haven, New Haven and Rocky Hill over the past few years. Dan attended Corpus Christi School and Wethersfield High School, graduating in 2006. While in High School, he was a member of the freshman baseball and soccer teams and was a four-year member of the basketball program, finishing his career as a captain of the team. During the summers, Dan worked for the Town of Wethersfield summer camps and was also a basketball coach for the Special Olympics. He played JC Courant baseball and AAU Basketball during his high school years as well. Dan proceeded to Springfield College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in four years, graduating in 2010. This was no small feat since Dan was diagnosed with ADHD after he finished college. During his college summers, Dan worked at the Rock Cats as a Warehouse Manager for the concession operation. After graduation, he held various roles including Auto Parts distribution, Investment Account application processing, and sales roles with PetSmart, CitiTrends and Artisan Vapor Company. During his college years, Dan was introduced to the world of pills. Percocet, Xanax, Ativan, OxyContin. This we did not find out until 10 years later. Dan came forward to us admitting he needed help and he spent 15 months in a rehab program. When Dan left the program, he had been sober for 15 months, the most since he was in high school. But he didn't hold on to sobriety for long. He tried very hard to get things straight again. And after his roommate from the program passed away two months ago from an apparent overdose, it seemed Dan was ready to get his life back on track. He was an avid sports and memorabilia collector with designs on selling these and other items to tide him over until he got things straight. He started with addiction therapy again four weeks ago. He vehemently understood the risk of fentanyl laced pills and the dangers involved – but that didn't save him. Dan was a really good guy. He was naturally engaging and very smart. He had undeniable charisma and his mother's infectious sense of humor. We wanted the true Dan back again. Along with his father, Dan is survived by his two sisters, Erin K. Verre of Wethersfield and Brenna K. Verre of Waltham, MA. And, of course, our pups, Charlotte and Sammie. He is also survived by his grandmother Chris McMahon of Rocky Hill, his aunts and uncles: Eileen (McMahon) and Ken Peterson of Wethersfield; Tom and Debbie (Trevethen) McMahon of Rocky Hill; Dennis and Evalyn (Assad) McMahon of Wethersfield; Tim and Amy (Hebert) Verre of Wethersfield; Kevin Verre of Newington; Michael and Jaynie Schiff-Verre of Maine; Richard Verre of Maine; John and Beth (Norton) Verre of Massachusetts; Ann Marie (Verre) and Pat Jezewski of Victoria Island, BC; and his cousins: Shannon, Ryan and Connor Peterson; Megan (McMahon) and Kevin O'Brien and Paul McMahon; Kelly, Bryan and Matthew McMahon; Danielle, Ricky and Andrew Verre; Gabriel Schiff-Verre; Caroline (Garrigan-Verre) and Matt Bonnazzoli; Aidan Neff-Verre; Sean Verre; Adam and Marnie (Patrick) Jezewski and Meghan (Jezewski) and Paul Huxtable. Dan was pre-deceased by his mother, his paternal grandparents, Richard and Mary (Kane) Verre, and his maternal grandfather, Thomas F. McMahon. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dan's life will be held on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021 at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Friends and Family may call on Monday, October 11th, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. The Town of Wethersfield indoor mask mandate must be observed. To extend condolences, please visit www.farleysullivan.com. As the high school athletic trainer, I knew Dan pretty well. He was a good, respectful kid who always came by to say hello and give a handshake. My heart felt sympathies to you and your entire family.

I did not know Daniel. Thank you for sharing Daniel's and your journey as it was extremely difficult and shows the heartbreak it causes on the family along with the helplessness the addict suffers to the drug. My heart is with you and your family during this sad time. Publications like this help those of us who continue to struggle and helps us realize the external implications and keeps driving it home (with outside, unexpected ticklers). Hugs, good thoughts and blessings to Daniel as he transitions and to you, Daniel's family.

I ran the open gym at the High School on Sundays while Dan was growing up and he was always there. I have many fond memories of playing ball with him. Dan was a great guy and we would always have great conversations, on the court or if we saw each other on different social occasions. My sincerest condolences to his whole family, my heart breaks for you.
