David was a lifelong scholar of Russia, its history and literature. He continued sharing his knowledge of Russia with my students every week. He travelled with me and my students to Soviet Union and later Russia. Hi always shared eagerly his encyclopedic knowledge of Russian history with my students. Russian program had a long history at the Norwich Free Academy due in major part to David and his enduring love of everything connected to Russia.

Memories of Mr. David Anderson.
Thomas R. Mulconry, Jr.
I well remember Mr. David Anderson from Norwich Free Academy (NFA), Norwich, CT. I was a student of his in Russian History and I was also a member of the Russian Club in 1971, my senior year in high school. I am very sorry to hear of his passing.
Mr. Anderson was an absolute genius on the subject of everything Russian, be it history, geography, politics, or day to day life, but he always explained matters in a way that was easily understood and in a most interesting manner. Because of Mr. Anderson´s easy going learned approach to the field of Russian studies, he made one want to seek out further information of the subject. Mr. Anderson was a most positive influence on his students and me in particular. Mr. Anderson opined on several occasions that the study of Asian cultures, and of China in particular would be of interest and benefit in the future. Taking to heart his learned guidance, although I majored in psychology, I minored in East Asian Studies in college. Such studies indeed become useful during the 33 years I was in the U.S. Air Force, particularly the 25 years I spent with the Air Force Office of Special investigations (AFOSI), and now the Department of Defense.
Mr. Anderson made his classes a joy to attend. Because of his down to earth, common-sense approach to education, I have retained much of what he taught me, and am still a student of Russian history, geography, and politics. Despite his knowledge on all things Russian, Mr. Anderson was very approachable and encouraging, and in my mind, he was a true educator and mentor to his students.
In his wake, Mr. Anderson leaves behind many family members, friends, and a myriad of grateful students, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May GOD bless him and keep him.

I am very sorry for the many members of Mr. Anderson's family at their loss. I know his son, Nick very well. He is a very skilled and diligent carpenter and farmer. I can see from this detailed obituary so many of his environmental, and respect for humanity assets are instilled in Nick, and I'll bet in his other children. That is a legacy for his family and all who knew him. I respect that Nick made a point of visiting his dad every week for lunch or just checking up. I wish more of the privileged would be like Mr. Anderson in his effort to improve the lives and earth for us all.

I took a russian-lit course taught by Mr. Anderson my senior year at NFA (Class of '66). Enriching course, amazing man. I'm 75 and my enjoyment of the literature he introduced me to has never wavered. It is not a coincidence that I'm midway through rereading a Dostoevsky novel. Thank you, David. Rest in peace.

I taught Russian at the Norwich Free Academy and he taught a very popular Soviet Union course. David was always helpful, encouraging and so very supportive in my efforts to make my Russian classes informative and interesting. He would come in every week to my Russian class to teach Russian and Soviet history. He always attended Russian Club events. Together David and I organized a trip to Soviet Union. I have the fondest memories of David. It is so sad that he is no longer with us.

Of you were lucky enough to live in Preston, and had a horse you knew Mr. Anderson. He was the quintessential 4-H leader organizing clinics, horse camping trips or Point to Point races. Tirelessly giving many of us our first venture into the world of showing, judging and raising horses. All of that knowledge still in use today . Add to that , the Russian course at NFA , Mr. Anderson made us all a bit more worldly. My sincere condolences to the Anderson family.

David was the most inspirational teacher of my life. I took his "Introduction to the Soviet Union" course at NFA in my Senior year back in 1974. David instilled in me a deep interest in many things especially, Russian literature. I am so grateful to have known and learned from David.

David Anderson used his time on earth wisely, as a legislator, local official, educator, activist and parent. He was farsighted in working to solve environmental problems on the horizon. He enjoyed a mutually respectful partnership with former Rep. David Lavine on the Energy Committee. A life well lived!

David was a prince of a fellow, an extraordinary man with wide interests and deep passions. He lived each day so fully, vibrantly, and with such compassion and conviction. What a lover of life! What a good man whose goodness will follow him in the many lives he has touched, moved. He will live on indeed. Praise be!
