David BLITZ Obituary
BLITZ, David
David Blitz, of Branford died on Saturday, January 12 after a courageous fight with cancer. He is survived by his loving family: Wife Lita Blitz; daughters Merissa and Jessica Blitz; father Sandford Blitz; brothers Mike Blitz (Debbie) and Jeff Blitz (Zulma); and sister Darcy (Jeff) Blitz-Becker. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Phyllis Orlando and several nieces and nephews. Dave was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. Dave was the executive Vice President, Director of Commercial Banking at Farmington Bank in Farmington, CT. Dave has held many board positions in the community: the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Board Executive Committee and the Soundview Family YMCA. In addition to these positions, he has received numerous awards and honors over the years: Banknorth Sales Performance Award in 2003, 2004, 2005; U.S. Small Business Administration's Eagle Awards, District Director Award in 2012, Sponsor of Rotary Club of Branford Golf Classic in 2012; the Charitable Leadership Award in 2006, MS Corporate Acheiver Award in 2004 and 2005, and the Referral Excellence Award in 2003.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford. Friends may call prior to the service from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of his daughters to the David Blitz Scholarship Fund, c/o Farmington Bank, 32 Main St. Farmington, CT 06032. His family would like to acknowledge and thank Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital, Connecticut Hospice, and Farmington Bank for all their love and support throughout this trying time. Lita, Merissa and Jessica,
When I first learned of Dave's illness, I witnessed his extrodinary courage and so named him "Superman". Upon his return, his office was decorated with the Superman logo. He quickly discovered it was me and told me how much he appreciated the logo, never figuring himself to be so strong.
I sent emails to Superman while he was out, to keep him up-to-date with the "unofficial news" of our office and continued to be amazed when he said I made his day when in fact, he made mine.
When Dave first joined us, I had the opportunity to speak with him often, as our offices were across from each other. He talked about all of you frequently - clearly his family meant everything to him.
