David Emery Obituary

David L. Emery, 68, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family. Dave, son of the late Lloyd and Yvette Emery (Parlin) was born May 27, 1953 in Waterville, Maine. The family moved to and resided in Windsor Locks through Dave's high school years where he met and made several lifelong friends. Once through college at Eastern Connecticut State University, Dave entered the field of education with Enfield Public Schools where he was a dedicated special education teacher and administrator for 37 years. Dave's role as an educator was felt both in and out of the classroom as he enjoyed teaching all he encountered. He brought learning to sports as well, coaching field hockey, softball, and baseball. In his spare time, he loved to golf, was an avid bowler, a clutch softball player, a bullseye dart thrower, and expert cannonball splasher for his granddaughters. As much as he loved being in the game, he was also a proud fan of the Red Sox and Patriots, and loved tailgating and watching UCONN football with the best of friends, who affectionately called him Bo. But his most cherished role was his role as father to daughter, Carly and son, Eric. David is survived by his beautiful wife, Maureen Emery (McGreevy); sister, Diana Bowden (Emery) and her husband John F. Bowden and their son John F. Bowden II; two loving children, Carly McKenney (Emery) and her husband Patrick McKenney, and Eric Emery and his partner Kai Marshall-Otto; and two granddaughters, Morgan and Emmalyn McKenney. Dave's family will receive friends and relatives between 1:00 and 4:00pm on October 3, 2021 at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. A private burial will be arranged at the family's discretion. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Connecticut Special Olympics, Attn: Kristen Mengold, Special Olympics Connecticut, 2666 State Street, Suite #1 Hamden, CT 06517-2232 or at https://www.soct.org. I am deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing as I was away and was unable to attend his service. Dave's room was next to my office at JFK and I was honored to work with him. He was a supportive, caring and giving teacher to his students and colleagues at JFK, Fermi and Enfield High. He truly was a special educator and friend in many ways as he touched the lives of all of us. My sincere sympathy to Maureen & their family and he will always bring smiles when we think of him.

Dave was a great teacher, friend, colleague and leader. He could be your peer and equal but also in charge when he needed to be. He was kind, patient, gentle and loving with students. Such a great sense of humor also and quick witted. A great example of servant leadership. We will all miss you Dave. Sincerely condolences to all of Dave's family and friends.

I will always cherish my memories working with Dave and his soulmate - Maureen. It was truly the best times of my professional career. You were kind, funny, supportive and always patient. A great colleague and leader. No matter how crazy things were - through laughs and arguments - my work-husband was there for everyone - all done with his unforgettable engaging smile. It was a privilege to work with you and call you my friend.

I am proud to have had Bo as a friend of mine. We met at ECSC over the fuseball tables. We played darts on the state champion Spiders dart team and had so many good times together. He was truly one of the nicest individuals. dh
