David Horowitz Obituary

David Horowitz of West Hartford, peacefully passed away on January 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a long but very brave battle with brain cancer.

Born on November 14, 1949, he was the beloved son of Jack and Vera (Stojak) Horowitz. Raised in West Hartford, he graduated from Uconn as well as receiving his Masters in taxation at UHart. He co-founded the firm "Harvey and Horowitz" in 1987 shortly after making partner at Touche Ross.

He was a dedicated patriot, serving in the US Air Force Reserves for 6 years and a proud member of the American Legion Post 96 for an impressive 51 years, where he continued to serve and support fellow veterans.

David, a loving husband of 43 years to Cindy Horowitz (Talarski), and a dedicated father to his two sons, Daniel Horowitz and his wife Brittany, and Alan Horowitz and his wife Morgan. He had four grandchildren who adored him as "Pops": Willa (6), Graham (3), Peyton (2), and Avery (5 months).

As a trusted CPA, he developed lifelong relationships with his clients, earning their trust, gratitude and friendship with many throughout the years. His legacy as a dedicated professional and a loving family man will forever be remembered. Throughout his life, he was known for his sage advice, Dave-isms, and dedication to his family and career.

Over the last 20 years, David and Cindy found joy in spending winters in Delray Beach and time with their children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories and special family bonds.

David's favorite hobby was boating, where he found solace having a beer and a cigar on the back deck of his "Weather Oar Knot". The memories and adventures he built with his family and friends boating in the Long Island Sound and in South Florida will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to join him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Connecticut Institute for the Blind (dba Oak Hill).

A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held on Friday January 26, at 11:00 am at the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. W. Hartford. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 9-11 am. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Directions and online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.molloyfuneralhome.com. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Oak Hill at www.oakhillct.org. May he rest in peace, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A toast to a "Dave-ism": Problems create opportunities.

I was saddened to read of Davids passing. My memories go back to the early 1960s at the Park Street Laundromat. When his parents were workig to turn out clean clothes for customers and Jack was always repairing broken down machines, David and I would run around Park Street doing what 11 year old boys did. HAVE FUN GROWING UP OUTDOORS. My father Al of blessed memory owned the package store 4 doors down from the laundromat so every Saturday was a fun day.

Rest in peace my friend.

To the Horowitz family: I first met David in 1969 while at the Hartford Branch of UConn at the Old Goodrich Estate on Asylum Avenue in Hartford. David was bright, witty and a good friend. He also had excellent taste in cars and was just fun to be around. As time went on, we kept in touch whenever possible, and I was very much impressed with his CPA Firm and became a client immediately. I have wonderful memories of those days and deeply regret his passing. He will always be well remembered by all of those he shared time with

I believe my favorite memory is when Dave allowed Michael to use Weather Oar Knot as a platform to propose to Amanda. It couldn´t have been more fitting.

Rest in peace...

My cousin David was beloved by all the family and his friends. We had wonderful times together when we were children at my family home in Chester, CT, nearly every weekend. Until the end, he and Cindy celebrated in style many holidays, birthdays, etc. When I was in Florida a few years ago, he took us out on his boat in Del Ray and pointed out the homes there of various Hartford area well-known people. It was so rewarding to know he was friends with a variety of locals. Rest in peace, my dear cousin.
