Dominic Cicerchia Obituary

Dominic Anthony Cicerchia, 87, of Bethany, the beloved husband of Rosalie Pacchiarelli Cicerchia entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ansonia, CT on July 7, 1926 to the late Evaristo and Maria Bernabei Cicerchia. Dominic served proudly in the US Navy from November 1944 to July 1946 on board the USS Hutchins, the USS Bennion and the USS Richard P. Leary, all Fletcher Class Destroyers. The Seaman First Class Gunners Mate earned the Victory Medal for his service during WWII. After serving his country, Dominic trained and worked as a carpenter for Fusco-Amatruda Corp and Edgewood Construction Company, ultimately retiring as a Construction Superintendent from the Fusco Corp in 1980. Dominic, a lifelong resident of Connecticut, moved to Bethany from New Haven in 1962. The couple resided in the home built with love and care by Dominic. He was an avid hunter and fly fisherman for most of his life. Dominic hunted throughout New England and fished from Maine to Florida and throughout the West. Dominic will be remembered as the consummate gentleman, and a warm and giving person. To his grandchildren, he was a playmate and pal; to his nieces and nephews, he was their favorite Uncle Donny; and, to his children, he was a guide and inspiration in all of life's endeavors. He spent 63 years as a lover, traveling companion, and ultimate caregiver of his adoring wife. All who knew him will miss him. His devoted family includes his son Robert Cicerchia and his wife Cheryl of Seymour, his two daughters Evelyn Mancuso and her husband Mark of Sparta, TN, and June Ennaco and her husband Andrew of Simsbury. He will also be missed by his loving sister Marie Bracci of Seymour and eight cherished grandchildren; Kristin Ennaco Sebas, Adrienne Ennaco Fornwald, Mark Dominic Mancuso, Stephanie Ennaco, Andrew Dominic Ennaco, Melissa Cicerchia, Shelby Mancuso, and Jessica Cicerchia. He was predeceased by his sisters Anna Tuccio and Beatrice Lewis and his brother Joseph Cicerchia. A Memorial Service in celebration of Dominic's life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Rt. 67, opposite Klarides Village) in Seymour, CT. My memories of Dominic go way back to when I was a small boy. I remember Dominic, my Dad and me filling up wooden bushel baskets with flatfish somewhere in the sound. I also remember hanging around the property when he was building the house and my Dad was helping him with something. I loved it there because it seemed as though the family was going to live in the woods. I loved the woods as much as Dominic. I took him fishing here in Washington shortly after my Dad died. We fished for cutthroat in my canoe in a lake near Spokane and for rainbow in another in the Columbia Basin. We also fished Rocky Ford Creek with little tiny flies. He had great patience. I don't know if it was the same visit or not, but Dominic, a friend of mine and I rafted and fished the upper Yakima River. He completely out-fished us. He was a stand up guy and a good man. His love of the wild always struck a cord with me as a boy and still does now that I'm 65 years old. Good bye Dominic.
