Donald Stier

1932 - 2014

Donald Stier, 81 of Enfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2013 at his residence with his loving wife by his side. Born March 24, 1932 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Abe and Raye (Stern) Stier. On May 25, 1969, Donald was united in marriage to Wendy Lemkin. Donald proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Donald was a people person and it showed in both his career and personal life. Donald graduated from Saint Francis University in PA and was employed in the sales department of Max Okun Furniture and later with J.C. Penney's. Donald was also a volunteer with many organizations, including Hartford Hospital Auxiliary, several visiting nurses associations and the Windsor Locks School System. Donald was a member of Friends of Enfield Library and after his retirement, he took classes in Sociological Diversity, Environmental Studies and Art at Asnuntuck College. Donald was an avid reader, particularly non-fiction, a movie buff and he enjoyed watching baseball, especially the NY Yankees. Donald also found great joy in traveling with his wife and together some of the places they explored were Italy, China and throughout the US. Donald leaves behind a brother-in-law, David Lemkin and his wife, Jenine, and their children, Allison and Joshua Lemkin. Relatives and friends are invited for a Memorial Service that will be held for Donald on Sunday, January 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Donald's name may be made to the Hartford Hospital Fund Development, 80 Seymour Street, P.O. Donald's family would like to extend their appreciation to a close family friend, Edward Lanati and their neighbor, Kathy Zalucki, who were so great to Donald and Wendy over the years, and a very special thank you to the staff at Parkway Pavilion, the Visiting Nurse & Health Care Services of Vernon, especially Nelson and Cheryl, Dr. Herbert Keating and Joyce Harmon, APRN for the extraordinary care they gave to Donald.
