Doris M. "Gum" Toubman

Doris M. Toubman, known affectionately as "Gum", of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of West Hartford, CT, passed away at the age of 93 on April 5, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry W. Toubman. Born in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late Louis and Ida (Slavin) Maron. After high school, Doris enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Washington, DC for 4 years. She was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. She then moved to Hartford, where she met and married Harry. Doris went to work for then Governor Abraham Ribicoff, Day, Berry & Howard, and then her favorite and most rewarding job, school secretary at Burns School in Hartford. Doris enjoyed playing tennis in her earlier years and SAGE at the temple in her later years. She was known and loved at Footprints, Nordstrom and Whole Foods. Doris leaves her daughter, Wendy E. Jackwin and her husband, Michael, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her beloved grandchildren, Eric and Kristen Jackwin of Fort Lauderdale and Andrew Jackwin of Los Angeles, CA. She leaves her niece Sheila Marks, and nephews Michael Fuss, Brian Toubman and Jeffrey Maron. In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was predeceased by her best friends, Sid and Mildred Levenson. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in the Jonathan Welfare Society Cemetery, 401 Tower Avenue, Hartford, CT with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at Congregation Beth Israel, Feldman Hall, from 3:00-5:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Beth Israel, SAGE.
