Dorothy Higgins Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Floyd Higgins, 96, of East Granby, beloved wife of the late Edward A. Higgins, passed away on Sept. 16, 2018 while residing at Suffield by the River. She was born in Quincy, Florida on Sept. 3, 1922, daughter of the late John M. Floyd and Kathryn (Woodbery) Floyd. Dot served for 4 years in the US Navy, worked briefly as a hairdresser at The Institute of Living in Hartford, and after 35 years of service retired from Kaman as the company's first female supervisor. She was very active in the town of East Granby and involved in many local groups including: Town of East Granby Commission on Aging, Historical Society, Friendship Club, Turkey Hills Study Club, and the East Granby Congregational Church. Dot leaves a nephew, John Lacouture and his wife Ceil Berard Lacouture of West Suffield and a step-daughter, Cathy Harrison of Newington. Her funeral service will be held on Sun., Sept. 23, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the East Granby Congregational Church, 9 Rainbow Rd., East Granby. Her burial and military honors will be held on Mon. at 2 p.m. in Granby Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the East Granby Congregational Church and the CT Humane Society. Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home of Granby has care of her arrangements.
