STEARS, Douglas L. Douglas L. Stears, 55, of Ellington, died Tuesday, (June 8, 2004) at home. Born in Hartford on January 15, 1949, son of the late, John and Marion (Smith) Stears, he had lived in East Hartford, Windsor Locks and South Windsor before moving to Ellington. He was employed by Harvey Industries of Manchester and was a member of Truth Baptist Church, South Windsor. Mr. Stears was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed golfing and horseshoes. He leaves his former wife, Mary (Guimond) Stears of Windsor; a son, Matthew Stears in Germany; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Bunny Stears in Florida, Ronald and Marilyn Stears of Danielson and William and Gerry Stears of South Windsor and a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Olin Bishop. He was predeceased by a sister, Caroline Bauerle. A memorial service will be held, Friday, 6 p.m., at Truth Baptist Church, 60 Burnham St., South Windsor, with the Rev. Chad Prigge, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, South Windsor, has care of arrangement.
