HILDRETH, Edward Whitaker
Edward "Eddie" Whitaker Hildreth, 91, (October 31, 2011), husband of Ruth (Rathbone) Hildreth, of Gloucester, MA, formerly of New York City, Southampton, NY, Monson, MA, Old Saybrook, CT, Block Island, RI and Mystic, CT. Eddie was the former President and Owner of Hildreth Associates. Survived by his daughter, Dr. Kathleen Barnes and husband Eugene F. Barnes III, of Gloucester, MA; granddaughter, Glendon Barnes, JD, of Blue Hill, ME; nieces, Hope Graham, Inness Humphreys, Faith Humphreys; nephews, Hildreth, George and Whitaker Humphreys. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Warren Hildreth and Kathleen (Keener) Hildreth Hixson; sisters, Hope Deal and Priscilla Graham of Southampton, cousin, Henry Hildreth; great great nephew, George Inness.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930. There will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences at www. greelyfuneralhome.com.

Dear Ruth and Kathy,
Birgitt and I would like to send our condolences to you and your family.
Ed's steadfast friendship with my father and their shared love of sailing are cherished memories of their lives lived with humor and love. There remain so many fond memories with him and you dating back to your farm in Massachusetts and your lovely old brick house in Old Saybrook.
His calling card "Edward W. Hildreth," (which I kept), left at our door when you traveled through Dennysville twenty-five years ago, has this message written on the back: "Lost order! On way South to make large deposit on money saved in Maine, Ed."

Dearest Ruth and Kathy,
I was so sorry to learn of Ed's loss -- I was just thinking of you all the other day while driving around Old Saybrook. I have such fond memories of you guys, especially the first time on a sailboat -- how kind and patient Ed was while I was not adjusting to the seas at all! You are in my thoughts and prayers always, but especially now in this time of loss.
