Edward Mackiewicz Obituary

Edward W. (Eddy Mack) Mackiewicz, age 94, beloved husband of Angeline (Germano) Mackiewicz of 72 years, who was the love of his life, passed away at home with his loving family by his side, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022. Eddy was born May 11, 1928 in New Britain to the late Teofil and Stella Mackiewicz. He was a very proud, strong willed U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served his country honorably during the Korean War; receiving two Purple Hearts for his bravery. After the service, he worked for Ford Auto Company as a shop foreman and from there opened his own Chevron gas station in New Britain, called Eddy Mack's Service Station. He retired from Central Connecticut State University as an appliance repair technician. Over the years Eddy's hobbies were building modified race cars "the 95" and 59; that he ran at Plainville Stadium and Riverside Park Speedway. He loved the outdoors which included deer hunting, boating, fishing by the river and on the ocean with his grandkids, son-in-law and his buddy, Steve (Ben) Benoit. He enjoyed all the delicious meals his wife and sister-in-law Josie cooked for him; many of which came from his vegetable garden that he spent countless hours on. Eddy was a talented handyman that was always helping family and friends. As we always said, "It's not broke until Dad can't fix it." Some of his favorite times were spent with family and friends at the lake in Andover, playing cards, laughing, eating and relaxing. He also enjoyed hanging out with "the boys" at the Northwestern Veterans Memorial T.G.M. Post; where he served as Vice Commander for over 15 years. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends at the Elks Lodge #957, the Bristol Fish and Game Club and visiting with his good friend, John Switajewski at John's Auto. A devoted father and grandfather, Eddy will be extremely missed by his only daughter, Joann Cap and "Son"-in-law, Brian Cap, with whom he and his loving wife, made their home in Berlin. His beloved grandkids, Melanie Cap, Joel Cap and his wife, Vera Cap, all of Fort Lauderdale, FL. He leaves behind his brother Walter Mackiewicz, whom he loved dearly and his sister-in-law, Pauline Paganetti. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren; loving friends and neighbors. Especially, his nephew, John Ventrelli whom he looked forward to talking with almost daily; his cousin Mike Ciammella and great nephew Tony Ruggiero; and especially his 4 legged sweetheart, Charlotte. Eddy was predeceased by his brothers, Chet and Henry Mackiewicz. Relatives and friends are invited to Bethel Christian Church, 106 South St, West Hartford for calling hours Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022 from 10 am – 11 am, followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Edward will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley Street, New Britain. The American flag will be presented to his wife, Angeline. Funeral services are entrusted to the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave, New Britain, CT. Dear Joann and family. I have such great memories of your Dad and I'm so proud to have him as my Godfather. Hanging out at the garage and at Plainville Stadium are times I'll never forget. Uncle Eddie was also such a great and supportive friend to the rest my family, especially Mom and Dad. What a great man! Unfortunately I will be unable to attend his service but he will always be in my thoughts.
