Edward Monahan Obituary

Edward F. Monahan of New Britain, and formerly of West Hartford, reunited in Heaven with his beloved late wife Anita T. Monahan. Edwards's spirit was lovingly lifted away by the angels to his eternal resting place after 97 wonderful years shared by his family, and friends on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Edward was born on May 17, 1925 in New Britain, son of the late Edward G. and Mary (Donlon) Monahan. Born and raised in New Britain, Edward later was married to the love of his life, Anita T. Monahan on October 4, 1958. They later moved to West Hartford and for the next 45 years raised their family. In the early 2000's, Edward came full circle when he and his wife Anita, along with their son Michael, moved back to New Britain.

Edward's early teen life was spent training under his father to work in the family plumbing business. Edward's training was interrupted when he turned 17 and enlisted in the army during World War II.  Edward served in the infantry under George Patton in Northern France, Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe. Edward loved dancing and he especially loved going to polka nights where he met and fell in love with his future bride. After marrying Anita, they moved to West Hartford in the early 1960's, where Edward started his long career working at St. Francis Hospital in the Engineering Department. Edward loved working in his vegetable garden. He was a part of St Mark's Parish where he greeted the parishioners and also was part of the collection service. Edward's main focus was always the happiness of his three children and two grandchildren. One of the many things Edward and Anita loved doing the most was taking bus trips together to places like Nashville, TN and Lancaster, PA. Two of their most memorable trips together were anniversary gifts from their children to both Hawaii and Europe. One of Edwards's truly enjoyable things, when his grandchildren were growing up, was taking them to Sunday Mass. Some things Edward enjoyed in his later years were cookouts in the backyard with his family, going to get ice cream with his daughter Sheryl, and spending time on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon watching movies and old western TV shows with his family.

Edward will be forever missed by his three children, Michael E. Monahan of New Britain, formally of West Hartford, Edward F. Monahan Jr. of East Windsor, Sheryl A. Desroches and husband Bryan of Berlin, and his two grandchildren, Danny and Emily, along with many other family and friends. Edward was predeceased by his sisters, Marie Randazzo and Virginia Jacobs.

Calling hours will be Saturday, (February 25th) from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Our deepest sympathy and prayers to Mike Monahan & his beloved Family.
It has been my pleasure to have your dad as my dedicated client for over 15 years. He was such a sweet, kind and humble man who truly adored his wife, Anita. We shared so many stories about his life, his travels and his love for his family. He was a true friend. Your dad will be greatly missed. Rest in heavenly peace, Ed with your beautiful wife by your side.
Love, Rosanna Patoine & Family

My uncle Ed was one-of-a-kind. Not only my uncle but my godfather. I so loved him and the many good times we had together. He will be missed by all, but greeted by family in his next life.
