Edward Sasso Obituary

Edward H. Sasso, 88, of New Britain, CT "Patriarch" of the Sasso family, died Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Hospital of Central CT at New Britain General. Edward was born in New Britain, CT and was the son of the late Louis J., Sr. and Christine (Ciandella) Sasso. He served his country honorably in the United States Army in Germany and was discharged as Master Sergeant. Edward was an active member and Vice Commander of 169th Infantry Vets and a member of Sons of Italy. He worked as a laborer for the New Britain Water Dept. and was promoted to Superintendent of Water Distribution and retired in 1981 after twenty-eight years. After Edward retired from the Water Dept. he was employed by the CT AFSCME Council #4 in 1981 as a union organizer and retired after fifty-eight years. Edward was Vice President AFSCME International 1988 through 1989, Vice President and Executive Board Member of AFSCME Council 4, President AFSCME Council 4, President Connecticut Supervisors Local 818 of AFSCME Council 4, Vice President and Executive Board member of Connecticut State AFL-CIO, President New Britain Labor Council, Commissioner Mattabassett Sewer District.Edward is survived by his three sons – Todd Sasso of Woodbridge, CT, Dean Sasso of New Britain, CT and Reed Sasso of Berlin, CT, his brother Bruce Sasso of New Britain, CT, his two sisters Diane Cararini of Berlin, CT and Dr. Marcia Sasso-DiChristopher of Boca Raton, FL, his four grandchildren Christina, William, Anthony and Elizabeth. Edward was predeceased by his wife Marsha (Alling) Sasso, his sister Gloria Nelligan and his brother Louis J. Sasso, Jr.Funeral rites for Mr. Sasso will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Burial with full military honors rendered by the United States Army will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. The American flag will be presented to Mr. Sasso's son, Todd. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west – exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right.
