Dr. Edwin Brainerd

Dr. Edwin Brainerd, 94 of Palm City, FL passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home. Born in New Haven, Connecticut to Fred C. and Eva G. Brainerd, he had been a long-time resident of Windham Center, CT prior to retiring to Florida in 1984. He and his family also summered in Madison, CT for decades. As a youth he attended the Loomis School in Windsor, CT. He received his pre-med degree at Trinity College in Hartford and his doctorate at the Tufts University College of Dentistry in Boston MA. During World War II he was a captain in the US Army and was a dentist attached to "Merrill's Marauders" in Burma. Following his honorable discharge he established a dental practice in Willimantic, CT and served the community for 42 years. Dr. Brainerd spent his most treasured times at his summer home in Madison boating, fishing and cruising in the Long Island Sound with his sons. For many years he enjoyed successfully tending a string of lobster pots. His summer home was a center of family fun for his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marjorie Brainerd; his sons Dr. Edwin G. Brainerd Jr and his wife Sally of Anderson, SC and Jeffrey S. Brainerd of Arlington, VT; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son Richard Brainerd.
