MCKONE, Eleanor "Ellie" Henrickson Eleanor "Ellie" Henrickson McKone of West Hartford, June 30, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford after a long struggle with cancer. Survived by her loving brother and his wife, Larry and Barbara Henrickson of Winsted; her brother -in law and his wife, Robert and Alice McKone of Farmington;and numerous cherished nephews and nieces. Ellie was predeceased by her best friend and husband of 38 years, Jack McKone, and by their beloved infant son, John Jr. Ellie also leaves her dearest friend cousin, Eileen Schumann of Clinton and special long time friends, JoAnne and David Lutz of West Hartford and JoAnn Tine and Ann Marsh and their pet dog, Rosie of Bloomfield. The daughter of the late Larry and Mary ( Wheeler) Henrickson of Winsted, Ellie was the sister of the late Simon Henrickson of Quincy, MA and of the late Abbie Hoffman of Colebrook whom she loved dearly. After graduation from Winsted's Gilbert School, while attending Danbury Teachers College, Ellie spent two summers of internship at the United Nations, New York teaching the children of Foreign Diplomats English and the Palmer method of hand-writing. Later moving to Hartford, she worked more than 20 years as a claims adjuster at the Great American Insurance Co., and then began a lengthy career as a life underwriter at the Aetna Life Insurance CO., from which she later retired. Ellie was happiest playing the game of golf with her husband Jack in numerous tournaments at Rockledge Country Club of West Hartford. She also enjoyed the out-of doors and spent many hours sitting by her backyard pond enjoying the nature around her. Her summer activities included planting of summer annuals for pot gardening and attending to her perennial beds. She was passionate about feeding the birds, the squirrels or any animal that came her way. She especially loved her cats, Teddy and Kit-Kat. Recognizing her generous spirit and her love for animals, donations in Ellie's memory can be made to: The House of Bread, 1453 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06120; or to: The Animal Alliance Welfare League (AAWL), P.O. Box 1775, New Britain, CT 06050. At Ellie's request, funeral arrangements remain private, a memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a future date to be determined her family. The Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Avenue West Hartford, CT 06110 have been in assistance for her family.
