Elizabeth CLARK Obituary

CLARK, Elizabeth Cecile

Elizabeth Cecile (Smyth) Clark, 85, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday (November 16, 2012) at Saint Mary Home in West Hartford. Born in Springfield, MA, November 22, 1926, Elizabeth ("Betty") was the daughter of the late Henry P. Smyth and Elizabeth (LaPierre) Smyth. She was a graduate of Weaver High School, Class of 1944, and Saint Joseph College, Class of 1948. Betty was a longtime communicant at St. Thomas the Apostle Church and a member of the choir. She was employed by The Travelers Insurance Company for many years. Betty enjoyed going to flea markets, tag sales, and antique shows and she enjoyed working on puzzles. Betty is survived by five children, Dr. Pamela E. Clark of Columbia, MD, Frederick P. Clark and his wife, Lisa, of West Hartford, Jil E. Clark of Boston, MA, Claudia A. Clark and her husband, Chris Durkin, of Waltham, MA, and Polly E. Michel and her husband, Peter, of Las Vegas, NV. Betty is also survived by four grandchildren, Polly and Peter's children, Christian, Ellen, and Ethan, and Jil's daughter, Sophia-Grace. Betty is also survived by her cousins Arline Tehan of Bethesda, MD, and Eleanor DiLorenzo of Suffield. Betty is also survived by her former husband and the father of her children, Frederick E. Clark, of Mahomet, IL, and by her former brother-in-law, Raymond D. Clark, of Ellington, and his children, Raymond Jr. and Emily. Betty is also survived by treasured friends, among them Peg Mullarkey, John and Roseanne Reeder, Mary Hogan, Martin Smith, Bob and Mary Lester, all of West Hartford, Elaine Neubelt of Manchester, and Jane and Leonard Begg of Emmaus, PA. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brother H. Boucher Smyth and her brother William J. Smyth and his wife Olive. Betty was also predeceased by her first-born child, Jeffrey, who died in infancy. Betty's family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care that she received for almost two years from the staff of Saint Mary Home (particularly, the 3 East staff) and for the hospice care that she received in the last week of her life from Masonicare.

Dear Jil, Pam, Claudia, Polly and Fred...I'm sorry to read about your mother's death. I have a great many memories of her and all of you from the Arrowbrook Rd. days. She sent me a wonderful note when my own mother died and I never forgot how much it meant to me. Thinking of you all.....
