Elizabeth D. McDermott

1941 - 2023

Elizabeth Ann (DeGray) McDermott of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Francis W "Skip" McDermott, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 6, 2023. Born in Hartford on August 18, 1941, she grew up on Rainbow Road along the Farmington River, a daughter of the late Howard Mills and Catherine (Szepanski) DeGray. Betty is survived by her sons Edward McDermott of Naples, FL and Daniel McDermott and wife Kim of Austin, TX, and her daughters Theresa Nielson and husband Jeffrey, and Tracy McDermott Worlund, all of East Granby. "Nanny" leaves ten grandchildren – Kyle, Lyricia, Taylor and Sean McDermott, George Grillo Jr, Nicole Grillo Blair, Brett Nielson, Jesse, Arne IV and Cassi Worlund, and her adored great-grands, Brooklyn, Maci, Colton, and Greyson. She also leaves her sisters, Merlene Weiner, Catherine Jaronczyk, Patricia Smolenski, and Beverly Petraska, her brothers-in-law James McDermott and Thomas Arcari, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and her dog, Muffin. Betty and her family are grateful for the love and care provided during her valiant struggle with pancreatic cancer. Many thanks to companion Hyacinth Stewart, to Doctors Elias and Curtis, staff at Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, and the Hartford Healthcare Hospice team. The McDermotts are ever grateful to the best neighbors ever, Tom and Wendy Mitchell and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, November 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Damian of Molokai Parish - St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor.
