O'DONNELL, Emily Barlow
Emily Barlow O'Donnell of Vernon, wife of John O'Donnell, died on October 12, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Manchester, June 21, 1971, she was the daughter of Malcolm and Susan Barlow and sister of Cynthia Barlow, all of Manchester. Emily graduated from Manchester High School, Hartford College for Women, and Adelphi University, where she made life-long friends. She spent a year and a half in the Pacific Northwest with the Forest Service. She loved nature, plants, dogs, cats, books, and music. She wrote seven novels during National Novel Writer's Month (NaNoWriMo), and helped others to hone their writing and story-telling skills. She loved her work at CT Housing Investment Fund and, in recent years, at Mark Spurling's law office. She is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and treasured friends from school, work, the online community, and the Cosmic Omelet breakfast group. Jen, Jenn, and Dorothy shored her up in good times and bad. Leslie and Billy phoned with love and support for twenty years. Her friends were always at her side.
A memorial service will be held at the Phap Hoa Buddhist Temple, 85 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.pietrasfuneralhome.com.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Barlow, Cynthia, and John,
I'm so sorry to hear of Emily's passing. My heart and prayers go out to each of you. As you know, Emily was my childhood friend and my memories are plentiful of our growing up together....playing Masterpiece, or Four Square, or spying on the neighbors...so many hours spent together as children. I'm sorry to say that we did not keep in touch as adults, but it's so interesting, b/c I have been thinking about her so much over the last month. My daughter's 3rd grade class is studying rocks and it has reminded me of how Emily and I were obsessed with rocks / pebbles one year. We would collect them, crack them to see their inner design, cherish them....they were our treasures. We were innocent, inquisitive children together....and that is how I will always remember her. My kind friend Emily. xo

Emily was one of the most genuine and sincere people I remember from Manchester High School. Her passing has certainly left a void not only in the MHS alumni community, but in the many lives she has touched. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Emily's passing. I knew her from junior and high school. Emily was one of the kindest, sweetest, loving people I knew. When me and my husband were trying to come up with names for my daughter, he suggested Emily and your Emily is the first person to come to mind... I thought to myself, if my daughter turns out to be like Emily Barlow, I will be one proud momma! So far my daughter Emily would make your Emily very proud!! She is a friend to everyone, smart and loving. I searched high and low on the internet trying to find Emily and let her know... unfortunately I was not able to find her... I hope she is looking down and knows she is still in my heart and will be for the rest of my life.

I knew Emily as a young girl at Manchester High School. She was a year behind me and we were involved in some of the same extracurricular activities. I remember her as lovely, extremely bright, creative and a bit shy but with a mischievous streak. I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
